Auto hold of what? I use the brake hold all the time (even though it means brake lights, because I reckon they're a lesser evil than not letting the engine cut out.) But I can't think of another hold function that would help with acceleration - certainly not getaway-driver stuff like that. 😋

Unless you're driving something exceptionally sporty, I don't think there's anything to be gained by changing gears manually on an automatic: there certainly isn't with the current V60. Nor was there on the one Octavia vRS that had DSG (the other two were manuals).
But sport mode can be useful on the V60 whenj going uphill when 'normal' selects too high a gear. A nudge of the lever to the left and it's just right. In sport mode it changes gear by itself; but if you move the lever forward or backward in sport, then it becomes M - manual mode.

No, I suspect you're thinking of BMW drivers... 😂

To supplement WdB's question, are your flappy paddles fixed to the steering column, or do they move as you turn the steering wheel?
They are fixed position in the Outlander, which I prefer, whilst in the A1 if I want to change gear mid-bend I can never find them..!

Mine too - as you'd expect from Humph's answer. And 'flappy' is a misnomer; they move about as far as a mouse button.

On the wheel on mine, which is where they should be. If you need to change gear when the wheel is more than 45 degrees canted (1) you should have set the gear and speed up earlier (2) changing gear at extreme angles will have you in the ditch eventually. Specially if you have a shed load of horsepower.

Never thought of the MB brake hold as any more than a comfort feature; neither of ours will roll back in D on any slope. Can't see how it makes for quicker getaways - although switching from E (or C) to S certainly does, as it doesn't fudge the clutch for the sake of smoothness.

I never claimed it was anything other than a comfort feature, prevents creep prevents me keeping my foot on the brake, utilises start stop better. Never claimed it aided a fast getaway, unless its the time taken to move foot from brake to gas. If i want uber fast getaways I can summon up launch control

I've only driven one car with flappy paddles, an MPV with a 1.6 diesel engine. It was OK, did what was expected and certainly helped with engine braking when needed. I liked the control offered, I think I'd like it in a more powerful car. It wasn't something used to enhance performance in the car we had. If I used it great, if not no big deal.
I suppose it would come down to how much I had to pay for it. Volvo offer it for 150€ the last time I looked. On a car costing the expensive side of 70,000€ I would expect it to be in there not on the options list.

Does your Focus ST not have paddles? Bit surprised.

Hehe, I see what you did there. I don't have the ST, an autobox is not available, not even on the options list, for my Focus.
