Well been there, done it and got the £350 T-shirt. Made the fatal mistake of not filling the car before a holiday, so came back tired to a car needed a refill, after a holiday with a petrol rental car. Yes, you guessed it.....
1/4 mile from the station the car ground to a halt. The RAC were reasonably quick to rescue me, but it taught me a lesson. Ouch. Luckily the S-Max didn't seem to be affected by the problem in the next 18 months of my ownership, but I used the top quality diesel for the next few fills plus a few cc of two-stroke oil added for good measure. At the next two MoTs, the car performed as expected in the emissions test.
