I took the Motorcaravan Motorhome Campervan out for a little run today, as it has been standing idle for somewhat longer than normal (two holidays 'sans' having intervened) and to get some fuel to get us to the Tunnel at the weekend.
Almost managed to misfuel it; the Shell pumps being badged in the same colour, and 'Fuelsave' for both petrol and diesel.
Luckily, I had a 6th-sense moment before I pulled the trigger, and swapped nozzles.
Don't know if it's a bi-product of all the other vehicles now being petrol, or just old age.
Probably the latter; as you were all of you, whoever you are!

Is it maybe, you know, "time"? I'm trying to put this as gently as I can...no shame in it you know, it's perfectly normal to be less, well, you know...competent, as the years...well, I'm sure you'll give it some thought, while you can think that is...no rush to make any decisions...but maybe you should be thinking more about coach trips next year...
Oh, and did I read somewhere that you've had a bit of an issue with an alloy? A mystery peeling or something? Bless...
😜

Oh, and did I read somewhere that you've had a bit of an issue with an alloy? A mystery peeling or something? Bless... 😜 ....yup. Self-inflicted as well (but by car and sloppy workmanship, rather than by driver and sloppy driving) And all will be fixed on my return. How's yours - I'm told it can be seen from the moon.

Yes they do that don't they? Randomly scratch themselves...it's fine, don't worry, it can happen to anyone, not often if you've got your wits about you of course but, y'know... 😋

(TBH, I'm more concerned about the s/w update it has scheduled alongside. My ex-work colleague who I walk with from time-to-time has a diesel Golf which has had the emissions 'fix' In short order after that it has required a new EGR valve, and then a new throttle body; close on £1200 of work billed to him. He is, of course, pursuing VAG for full recompense, but is going through hoop after hoop to invoke the (declared) goodwill process)

Yuk ! That must be so annoying for him. They really must have done untold damage to their brand with all this. Father in law is now ready to up his car search ( re small car big boot thread ) and had been toying with a Golf, among all our other suggestions, but even he, who has no real idea about cars, is now perhaps unreasonably, reluctant to consider a VW. He is still quite interested in a Fabia estate though. I'll not bother to point out the obvious to him if that's where he ends up wanting to go.

Almost managed to misfuel it; the Shell pumps being badged in the same colour, and 'Fuelsave' for both petrol and diesel. As I filled up with Shell yesterday, it occurred to me that their pumps make that easier than most. My safety-first routine involves checking the pump display, the pump housing, visually tracing the hose from pump to nozzle, then looking at the 'Diesel' inscription inside the fuel flap and matching it to the 'Diesel' tag on the nozzle. A little obsessive, perhaps, but it's kept me out of trouble so far. Only the Shell nozzle has no tag, for diesel or otherwise. And a black hose is no guarantee, because they occur on petrol pumps too. Which makes the whole process a little more uncomfortable than it needs to be. Still bought the right stuff, though.

Not all that hard though is it? I find the diesel ones usually have diesel written on them and the petrol ones, well, you'll never guess... 😉

Adds maybe 20 seconds before I squeeze the trigger, some under 20 times a year. 400 seconds. I have far more unproductive habits than that. This, for example. 🤡

400 seconds? Damn, there's things I could do twice in that time, so I'm told..
But its not the time in doing it, its the brain power in deciding and then remembering to do it.

TBH, the narrower nozzle was probably what raised the awareness, but not immediately since, of course, I use that for the car now (after years of the even smellier stuff)
