You must have read about it, the guy who upset the media with his internal memo about the differences between sexes. Well, he's been fired. This is what he wrote.,.............. diversitymemo.com/

Now what exactly was he fired for, and what was the outrage? I get that his logic could be considered flawed, and perhaps his reasoning, but he wasn't disrespectful or demeaning of others.

Very strange this one. As you say, he may be wrong but it was said respectfully and he had the right to say it, under most free speech laws, and it was said in a forum set up by the company for general comment.
As CEO I would have have a hard time justifying sacking him,
BUT
I suspect Google had no other choice, given their bad press and PR, and had to bow to the PC police and are prepared to pay the bloke off with a sum of money and a non disclosure agreement when he brings a case of unfair dismissal.

It's pathetic pandering to the knitting brigade. If he was in the UK, he could not have been removed; if he went it would be with a trouser load of cash.

Hmmm,
What he says is well argued and *may* have some rational/factual basis. Good stuff for philosophical debate.
OTOH openly challenging a key plank of your employer's 'vision' and policies isn't career enhancing. Do it once and you'll be spoken to. If you've been told to 'cease and desist', with reference to which T&Cs your breaking, and repeat the offence on employer's internal discussion fora you are dicing with dismissal.
If somebody turned up in CA telling that sort of story I'd punt him to ACAS and/or for legal advice but without much hope for his prospects. More likely to 'get off on a technicality' than be found wrongfully dismissed on the basic facts.
