tqo and a half years later the car is still going.. up to 83,00 miles but with one odd new defect. The fuel guage is starting to read optomistically. Son #1 drove the car in the winter and when parked on a kerb, it failed to start. Fuel guage showing two bars out of six on the guage. I diagnosed lack of fuel, got a jerry can from a petrol station and hey presto the car ran.
On Friday son #2 was driving on a main road and it spluttered and died. Two bars on the guage. Same diagnosis same cure. Hmmm. Something's up..

Could be water in the tank although 2 bars would be hugely excessive without a hole in the filler pipe.
More likely the sender unit in the tank.

...unlikely to be water in the tank. The take-off would be at the bottom, and any added fuel would simply sit above the water.
More likely a sender problem, or possibly an instrument panel fault.

Edd China would know what to do. But, failing him being available, I'd change the fuel sender. Doddle of a job if it's accessible.

Maybe a common fail - few on ebay at (what I consider) highish prices.

Edd China would know what to do. But, failing him being available.............. .....would he sit in the passenger seat and say "I know what the gauge shows, but you're really out of fuel you know!"........

Sirion #2 in Israel...
Dad got a puncture. In his panic (given his possible pancreatic cancer diagnosis) he could not find the jack to fit the space saver spare.
So he decided, after sorting the puncture out, to buy a jack and a full size spare wheel/tyre. I arrived after he had bought the jack but before he got the spare. This afternoon (after he got the not malignant result - Hooray!) he got a call to collect his new wheel/tyre. Wew emptied out the boot and of course found the jack stuffed under the reveal of the boot up. We then discovered that the well for the spare will not take a full size wheel...
OK, so the space saver went back in, but what do you do if you have to use the space saver? Where do you put the punctured wheel and tyre??

Guess you'd have to sit on it.
Which would give most of us some idea of what it's like to be WDB I suppose...😉

Thanks. Still has to have some treatment but at least the big worry has gone.
Just at the hospital now to meet the surgeon. It's an hour's drive. Sirion has done 170,000km. It's up a big hill from the coast to Jerusalem. Even with four people the car coped beautifully..

Glad to hear some good news EIII.
I'm just back from a week in Greece - didn't really plan it as such but felt good to be in the EU when the UK left, if you know what I mean.

Second trip to Jerusalem this week and a third planned for Sunday. Dad needs to have more scans and tests so I have stayed here for a few more days.
The Sirion is racking up the kilometres and drives well, keeping up with faster traffic. The hill up to Jerusalem is steep with crawler lanes and heavy trucks doing no more than 10mph; the Sirion needs to drop out of overdrive to keep its speed over ~55mph. Going down the hill, economy is great..

...off a cliff, even better. Faster too. 🤓
(Second thoughts: better save the stuff about economy, downhill, off a cliff etc for the Brexit threads.)
