Many forms to fill in! Got a laptop straight away, though, which hasn't always happened for me in a new job.
Found the car policy yesterday. Apparently my grade entitles me to a Renault Laguna or a Volvo V50. I think I'll stick to the allowance. 😊

Be alright if you got one with a sunroof. You could stick your head through it ! 😅

From the car policy it looks as if your job is bringing the company into the 21st century....

Or, it's just s really clever move. In that the plan is that no one is going to make a business journey unless it's absolutely necessary. 😉

I forgot to mention the third option: Vauxhall Signum.
Still, look on the bright side. I'm only one promotion away from a Renault Espace.

That sounds as if it should be underwhelming, but I believe it's actually a very nice engine. Very good mpg apparently. Be interesting to hear how it compares, if indeed it does even slightly, with the lairy one you had recently. That one may have spoiled you of course !

Whilst it (520d) might feel very nice after the Lancer and XC70, I have no doubt you were spoiled by the 540. Be interesting to see what you think of it as an estate compared to the XC70? We might get you in an E-class yet......

Bit like football and rugby really. A footballer would have a BMW whereas a rugby player would go for a Mercedes.
Difficult to explain, in fact you can't explain it, it's sort of sensed rather than understood...
😉
Edit - actually that's more or less bollocks, but I kind of know what I mean, even if no else does.

Round here in Alpine France, to a first approximation nobody has a Mercedes at all. Ours has received close scrutiny from passing villagers, and I think I know why.
The other day, when I was thinking it might need mechanical attention, I looked up the details of the Mercedes agent in Annecy. As in the UK, that also had a list of used cars for sale. One was a CLS350d SB, a 2015 car similar in spec to many I've looked at back home (although with nicer wheels, I thought; less flashy than those on UK cars). There it might be advertised for £28,000; for this one they wanted 52,000€. At the current rate that's £47,000, comfortably more than I'd pay for a new one back home.
I've seen one CLS all trip, an old saloon on the motorway near affluent Lyon, well away from the mountains.

You have identified why Dacia is so popular in France.
The price of used cars on the continent vs the UK always staggers me.
