It works. We drove from Cologne to Windsor this morning listening to a variety of TuneIn radio stations. Only drop in signal was crossing borders as phone searched for next network which sometimes threw TuneIn requiring a stop and restart on android 7.1.2 running on a Nexus 5X.
It works perfectly in the eurotunnel.
No surprises really other than I'm not on contract only a PAYG AldiTalk 5GB 30 day subscription.

This is good news, will be able to use Google maps satnav with traffic info on the summer trip through France, without worrying about data roaming charges. Might help us avoid things like the horrific jam we hit around Rouen a few years back.

Thank the big pink pixie in the sky that all this European nonsense is going to be overruled by proper British rules in a couple of years though. Also relieved to have renewed my family's EHIC cards for the last time recently, bloody red tape Euro bureaucracy gone mad it's all elf'n'safety hur hur hur. *rage rage rage*

Doesn't that cover you for foreign travel? I thought most professionals had this, should you fall ill your employer's will want you back on the cube farm pdq.

It's not all about me, and it's not all about now, BPG. Losing EHIC is a *bad thing* in and of itself. Also, I'd like to retire to the continent (at least in part) with one, at which time I may not be able to afford private health care.
Do you think the roaming charges moratorium you are currently enjoying will survive brexit? If so, how?

I'll just buy a UK PAYG SIM as and when required same as your do for the US. As for retiring to Europe to need to prep that ground now. The UK pays next to nothing state pension which you top up with private pension, Germany for example you have a big state pension which you pay into through your working life and supplement with a small private pension. Then you're going to throw in currency conversion. Needs sorting out now if you want to do it.

Er, I'd rather just use the minutes/data/texts in my home country plan than have to buy a SIM in every country I might travel to.
Pension/retirement planning stuff is in hand. However currency conversion 20 years from now is not something one can plan for with any great accuracy. If brexit goes ahead, my position is likely to be worse than if it doesn't, that's just about all one can say about it.
Whichever way I look at it, brexit is still bollocks. The (perhaps temporary) death of roaming charges is one small example amongst may for why that is the case.
I presume you're a UK citizen resident in Germany? Are you implying that you're OK with brexit?

I'm not implying anything. It is what it is and I'll deal with the aftermath once I have a Scooby what it is. I'm beyond worrying about things I have no say in. I was actively excluded by the British government from having any say tells me all I need to know about democracy and my status as a British citizen.

I had an allowance of roaming data and unlimited calls/text for the last year. A few months ago Vodafone had a new offer to have 16GB data (including roaming) for 20p less than I paid. So I switched. I doubt I'll ever use 16GB data a month :-)
Already used the roaming element in May for the new tariff. The old one from a year earlier - but I only got 1GB/month in Europe.

Fair enough, BPG. Apologies for any offence.

No apology necessary, I know it's something you feel passionately about but I'm beyond caring and for my current plans feel better off out it.
I've learned to never say never, who knows what the future will bring.
Anyway, the good news is you'll be well advised of the what strikes me as permanent summer Rouen jam.
