I'll pick it up in Munich 9th October and deliver it to your house already run in same day, you can deal with the import stuff if you want it earlier. Yeah no problem, rock up at the gate and tell them Nogbad wants his toy ASAP. Pretty sure they will hand it over.

Were you not offered the BMW VIP collection from Munich package?

I actually enquired about that, perfectly happy to fly out and drive home. Was told its not possible (tho they get lots of folks asking for it) and a host of excuses was trotted out including the inevitable Eu regulations, Warranty Issues, DVLA problems, etc etc et
Apparently even MB stopped doing it.

Would have been a nice run too. And, you'd not especially miss the sunroof at that time of year, what with it getting dark early and so on.

I had a few words with them on my visit to Munich last week, and there may be a few surprises in the pipeline for Nobgags car as it comes off the production line....

It is very, very good - I can tell that even from my brief acquaintance. It is also very expensive, but I specced up a 530i today and thought, maybe. It's about 85% of the price of an equivalent 540i and probably 95% of the car, even if only 67% of the engine.
It loses out to the CLS SB only the rarity and visual wow factors; there will be a lot of them about, even if most will be 520ds. My man-maths brain is working hard on this.

Had the 530i been available in x drive I would have gone for that. For me, diesel is out. No sod it, I was onto a loser as soon as they gave me the 540 after having that for 24 hours anything else would have been, well, not 11. This one goes to 11.

As long as it doesn't involve faulen fisch

I think it sounds great, and I'd love to try one, only downside, and in truth very specific to me and my needs, is that the load space would be less useful than my current car. In every other respect I'd be more than happy with one.

The 5's load space is very good: on a par litres-wise with the CLS SB (the two are only 11mm apart in overall length too) and a boxier shape. I think either would do our annual holiday trip without needing a roof box, but it does still fall just short of a E for ultimate vannability.
I looked up some power and weight specs for the contenders on my list. In terms of PS per 1000kg, the 540i predictably tops the poll at 190, but the lighter Superb Sportline 280 runs it surprisingly close at 175.
The 530d and 530i are both around 150, my adequately rapid 325d has 135, and a CLS350d 133. Our old E220 props up the table with 95. Doesn't tell the whole story, of course, but that helps to explain its moments of sluggishness while we were fahren, fahren, fahren auf der Autobahn.

It must be terribly tempting to go for the Superb 280, and have the whole of next year's Continental holiday covered by what you would have spent on a CLS.

Not so much. I can get a 2016 CLS350d for £30kish; I read a report today on a long-term-test Superb that cost over £40k! If I'm spending that much, I want a BMW!

Are Skoda list prices holding that firm?
As you've seen Nogbad has got near enough 18% off a new model BMW 5 series, I can't imagine Skoda will be that hard nosed.
