Sure, but I don't need a basic Superb and I don't want to pay BMW money for a swanky one, when an actual 5 or CLS would be more fun.

Fair enough - new Skoda vs. year-old Merc or BMW. I remember at the time I was buying one of the Octavia vRSs (new) a colleague was paying about the same for a secondhand E-class estate. I was doing about 20,000 miles a year, he was doing 6,000. I think both of us made the right choice of car.

Oh, forgot to mention. I have acquired a private plate, i'll give the retention certificate to the dealer for first registration.

I had a private plate on my Phaeton. I quite liked it but it does get all a bit faffy in the world of changing cars in a multi car family.
I don't think I'd bother again.

I had one for about 10 years. Got bored with it in the end, and indeed began to think of it as a bit naff in truth, so I sold it. My wife had bought it for me one Christmas so I had to pretend to like it for a while ! She's a Cheshire lass you see... 😉

It is an almost perfect match for the dog's name, means nothing to anyone who does not know the 🐕 and best of all cost the measly sum of 295squids plus vat and registration fee
No brainer really
