14 months now since I bought a bike. This might not seem all that remarkable, but trust me, that's a long time when you are so afflicted.
But today, I was really quite proud of myself. Mooching around a specialist bike shop I was stopped in my tracks by a "special offer", an ex-demonstrator, my size, exactly the spec I'd choose, £300 off...
This does not happen often.
Several minutes of involuntary salivation and inspection followed. This developed into that highly recognisable ignoring of the wisdom of buying another bike, the quick mental calculation of the affordability of it and the growing notion that it, and it alone, would be the only thing which would adequately cope with tomorrow's ride.
But I walked away.
Quite cathartic actually.
Damn good deal though...
Still
Never mind eh
It was the right thing to do
They don't close until 5.30 mind
Aaaargh !
😇

£300 off what though? £500 or £3,000?
The former is a bargain, the latter merely a sales technique.

How does a bikeoholic end up mooching around a specialist bike shop? Its like an alcoholic merely looking at the pretty colours on the bottles in an offy.
Only one reason to enter, to SIN.

I mitigate that in that I was in buying some bits for "her" bike. She had a bit of an off last week, and while nothing too serious was damaged on her bike, it did need a small amount of fettling.

Part two - jury out... ;-) ....is that the jury that will be required shortly after you tell SWMBO "look what I got cheap" ;-)

Ach she'd be fine with it really.
Provided I'm circumspect about the positioning of any decimal points which may enter the discussion...

Sorry, nothing particularly witty to say, but how could you see this picture and not think "Humph".

Yes very good !
My heart and soul were lifted yesterday by a chance encounter. Wife and I were bowling down the last section of "Follow the Dog" at Cannock Chase at the top end of her ( not at all shabby ) pace. Quite a technical section, fast in places but narrow and rough with plenty of drop offs and turns where you need to slide or jump the bike round them. At one point I sensed a much faster group coming up behind us and we pulled off the track to let them through. A series of very top end bikes and race equipped riders blasted past us with much showboating. We eventually caught up with them at the bottom of the run to find that most of them were young guys who were part of a competition team, but that one of the riders was an old fella of 82 years of age. Fully kitted and riding a Santa Cruz Bronson. ( three grand plus worth of state of the art bike ) Apparently he mountain bikes there most days and is quite famous at that venue.
Gives me hope that I've a few years left in me yet !

Ok, I don't need another bike. I have enough bikes. Trouble is, I don't have one with "plus" width tyres. These are not "fat" bikes, just a bit wider than standard rims and tyres, and they're sort of "the thing to have" right now. None of my current frames would take them so I'd need a new bike...but I'm not going to do that...I think...but maybe I'll just go and have a look at a couple this afternoon. Research only of course, no intention of actually buying one to use over Easter...not going to happen.
Just thought I'd record that here so I can read it again tonight...
