First decent Sunday of the year. Got the bikes out to give them a fettle and managed to get Espadrilles and Espadrillette's bikes into a semblance of working order - chain, gears and brakes all working, tyres pumped up and the frame etc given a wipe down after several months in the damp garage.
My bike is not so well. The rear derailleur wont shift up. Stuck in sixth. Uses indexing levers with the down lever moving the cable and managing to move the derailleur a little but the up lever not moving the cable at all. Something has probably seized?? Any ideas?

Trying to visualise this....
When you say up/down do you mean gear number or cog size?
I'd hazard a guess that something, either rust or mud/grit is preventing the cable inner from moving freely.

Stuck in gear 2. I think I can get it into 1, but it slips up to 2 and won't go higher.

I agree with Simon, it sounds almost definitely a cable issue.
Can you release the cable at the derailleur and manually move the carrier in/out?

Sorry chaps, been a tad busy. Chugging around the Emerald Isle all this week trying to earn a crust.
Yep, almost certainly a rusted up cable. If you can be bothered, take it off, slide it out of its sleeve, grease it and put it back.
Alternatively, take it to a bike shop and get them to do it.
