So we will have Theresa May as our second ever female PM. I am utterly delighted that Boris the Buffoon got stabbed in the back, ridiculed as a cowardly battlefield general, Gove has been labeled as backstabber, a lackey of the Murdoch press, and under his wifes thumb. Two of the brexit leaders have been cut adrift as soon as everyone realised they had no idea what to do with their unexpected victory.
Clearly May is the best the Tory party can summon up, and probably not that bad a choice in the circumstances.

I was quite a Cameron fan, but it is quite inexplicable just how badly he buggered up the referendum process.
May cannot conceivably make a worse blunder.

The more I think about it, the more I realise that Cameron really did make a great mess of it. I was never a great supporter of Osborne (and assume he will disappear) but I am sad Cameron has gone - he was a very good PM. Nowhere near a smarmy as Tony Blair and you got the impression he was really only in it for the benefit of the people.
I feel the same way about May and she was the only obvious candidate once all the names were in the hat. I do feel sorry for Gove in a way. A clever man who I have heard speak very passionately about issues which were not obvious areas for his support. But I think he also make a huge mistake and I wonder if we will ever know the true reason for his actions. They were very odd.

Camerons plan was easy to see. The EU was/is a constant ulcer in the Tory party, a party that loves to rip itself apart, anti EU feeling was the one binding thing they could all rally around and agitate trouble. Get the Referendum vote out of the way, and Cameron could keep the troops under the thumb till the end of his leadership.
The remain campaign was appallingly run, failing to counter of the anti EU propaganda - instead trying to create fear. I can see the campaign theory - the old reliable "Its all about the economy stupid" but they cocked it up badly..
Once lost Cameron was heard to say "I dont see why I should do the hard shit - Boris can do it" - No-one expected him to resign, instead they assumed he would carry the can, and once he was gone the victors had no fall back plan.
Of course at times like this you need a good solid opposition party to act as a counterbalance. We have Corbyn. Nuff said.
Anyway I still think clause 50 wont get enacted, if ever, until after the next election, some time around next March or April I reckon. You can understand why the EU is pissed off, we are now dicking them about.
Its shameful.

Cameron just didn't think it through;
What was the referendum for? What was the decision threshold? How binding would it be? What would be the next steps?
Etc. etc.
I am not sure how a credible "remain" decision can be achieved. I can see how it might end up being "remain", but do we think that the damage can be repaired? I don't think so. Having the referendum was a catastrophic move, the fact that the majority of voters went for Out only made it a little bit worse..

Well I cant work it out, Ok so its the one cabinet post that carries more or less no power, but it needs someone with some authority and gravitas.

Interesting! There were always going to be some cabinet posts 'reserved' for Brexiteers and these were the ones that involved Brexit and foreign relationships. So David Davis as Minister for Brexit is logical. Boris was royally screwed by Michael Gove, so Gove never had a chance, but Boris is genuinely clever and can be a breath of fresh air amongst the dull hand of civil servants. He might just be the right person to shake things up, without upsetting the apple cart. Because of his buffoonery he can get away with saying things someone else couldn't without causing huge offence.
We continue to live in strange times.

Bozza may occasionally get away without causing offence but the numbers still weigh against him. Ask Liverpool (OK, bad example - everyone offends them), Hillary Clinton, France, Germany... Le Monde was not impressed; the BTL commenters even less so.

There was a thing going around last week surmising that Theresa May had been scribbling notes next to the names of MPs and had put "F Off" next to Boris's name. Unfortunately this was subsequently misinterpreted...

No, but fewer raised eyebrows if he was FM and not Boris.
