Serious question Humph, have you ever used WD40 on your chain ? Th reason I ask is because with my motorbike I've tried all the fancy waxes and oils and they just end up as expensive grinding paste. I oil my motorbike chain (with O rings) every 500 miles and clean it then oil it every 1000 miles. Done that for the last 3 years on my GSX-R750 with no real noticeable wear on the chain.

I haven't tried WD40, if you say it works then I might. Take it it doesn't dry out too quickly then?

Normal use for my bike is 250 miles/week so I oil the chain every two weeks, clean it once/month. There's no fling with motorbike and it's a damned sight easier to clean. Just a thought for your push-bike.

I think I've ker-nackered the inner tubes on my boy's bike by over inflating them. As discussed previously, I had a bad habit of inflating tyres to their maximum, and have now happily been corrected. Won't do it again.
However, on going in the garage on Sunday I noticed both the tyres on my boy's bike were flat. I pumped them up to 40 and they're totally flat again today. Have I likely over inflated then and caused the valves to give up or something (Schrader valves)?
I peeked inside the tyres and his rims are protected with blue rim tape, so it's not that problem. Off to Decathlon this afternoon for some of their excellent inners for £2.50 a pair.

I'd be amazed if simply inflating a tyre to its maximum recommended pressure would damage the valve. More likely that you've found a weakness in the tube. (I did have a tube burst once when I was reinflating it. Indoors too; made my ears ring for hours.)
You can easily test the valve by smearing it with soapy water. If it's leaking, you'll see bubbles.

You could equally say that inflating the tubes to their maximum recommended pressure shouldn't damage the fabric of the tube. These tubes haven't burst, they're holding pressure for a while then gradually deflating. Something's given up. It has to be down to the full inflation one way or another, there's no other explanation. New tubes it is, put it down to experience.

I can't see how over inflation would damage the fabric of the tube, surely the tyre would prevent it over stretching. But I could see how over inflating would bother joints, seams and valves.
I guess it depends on what you mean by over inflating -
1) Simply more inflation than necessary but still within the recommended range 2) Beserker inflating until the pump could take no more and the rim was creaking.

I use a JoeBlow pump with a pressure gauge on it, so I can see that I've reached the maximum recommended pressure, then I stop.

Compared to what, Otto? Not quite sure I understand the question. He thinks it's magic compared to his old, non-suspension machine.
He's been riding it with the tyres at max recommended pressure only so far, but when I put the new tubes in I'll inflate them to about 40/45 like I have done with mine now.
