Anyone have any experience of voice dictation software (and hardware) for using on a PC? I used Dragon dictate many years ago, but it took a long time to train up. These days my Android device does a pretty good job without training.
Any advice gratefully received. I do a lot of typing for work and there are times I wish I could just dictate like I dictate messages to my family on WhatsApp.

Funnily enough I was messing around with some at the end of last year.
I found it recognised my voice, when I spoke reasonably clearly, well, but I couldn't get on with it. If you know what you are going to say and can dictate it mostly in one long healthy stream, then it seems to work fine. But that's not me.
I tend to compose documents as I write with no more than a basic framework in my head; consider how something looks, revise, amend, re-order, sometimes stream of consciousness and sometimes considering each bit slowly. If I'm doing that verbally it tends to include mumbling, mis-pronunciations, words changing form half way through etc. etc.
It didn't go well.
Perhaps if you are often writing much the same thing with just a few bits changed, then that may well be a different thing. I find it just doesn't work well like that.
Though it is worth mentioning that I probably only tried it for half a day, this wasn't a thorough road test; it was more a quick try and then a flinging against a wall.

I've done that a few times just using the iPhone, dicating into the Notes app and emailing the result to myself. Keeps it really simple.

"It didn't go well"
Yeah, but you're Welsh right? Probably doesn't understand "There's lovely isn't it boyo" does it?

Looks like there might be something native in Win10. I must have a closer look and buy a headset with mic and earphones.

I wouldn't bother. The PC keyboard is so much more fluent and easy. (unlike an andoid phone for example)

I don't know how the kids do it. Typing anything more than a brief message on a phone keyboard is a total arse.
