Having obtained probate for my mums estate, I have been gathering in the monies from various sources. Got the big ones done first and now rooting around in the bottom of the draw for the small fry.
I came across two policies from Liverpool Victoria, from 1951 and 1954. Fantastic old documents the size of a roll of wallpaper, with pictures of the imposing old HQ in Southampton row and faux seals with all sorts of promises and names of long dead directors. One was for a premium of 7 old pence a week, sum assured 68 guineas, and one was a shilling a week, sum assured 150 pounds. Both had letters attached some twenty years later saying they were now paid up and free.
So I phones modern day LV, and gets immediately put through to the "old policies" lady, who takes the required policy numbers, fills out the claim for me over the phone, just asking for the number of the death certificate, does some interest and bonus calculations and then informs me that If I give her my account details she will transfer the paid out sums.
How much?
Wait for it
£3,600.06
Nearly fell off my chair. And very well and efficiently handled by LV. To think I nearly checked them away as "too much hassle"

Very good, very impressed with your mum's record keeping. I suspect you were lucky that the company still exists rather than having been swallowed by another over the years, definitely a result!

Lucky you didn't chuck them isn't it! Shows what inflation has done.

That enough for an umbrella drone and one of these, so you can take pictures of yourself using it and STILL carry a cup of coffee and a bag of potatoes.

Not quite the same as the service Nogbad got from LV. But we submitted an application for a new passport on Saturday. Well we used the Post Office check service since it's only a little more than the secure post needed to send in your old passport. So the passport would have left there on Monday morning. On Wednesday morning I get a text to say they've received the application. Yesterday I get a text to say expect the passport within 3 weeks. It arrived today. And they've managed to add on about 8 days to the old expiry date + 10 years. I assume the passport office is over staffed But 6 days total and I didn't drop it off at the post office until about 2pm last Saturday. So more like posted on Monday to the passport service and we get the new one back on Friday.
