Strange though.
Presumably he [I, for example] would stay if;
1) He thought he could win it for a second year 2) He was prepared to put the commitment in
These guys *always* think that they can win, that's why how got there in the first place, and these guys are obsessed, that's how they for there in the first place].
So unless winning once, even in a bit of an inconclusive way, is actually genuinely enough for him, which I doubt, then he'll be back.
And if he doesn't come back then I wonder what there is that we don't know. Because I suspect there'll be something.

And if he doesn't come back then I wonder what there is that we don't know. Because I suspect there'll be something. His age and years behind the wheel has something to do with it. F1 drivers with wives and young kids suddenly start to have doubts about their invincibility from the grim reaper at about 30-35. And once they do, thats it they have lost the edge.

Actually, if I had that sort of money, I'd not do another hands turn either !

My thoughts on his retirement. - He's 31 and has a young family - why take the risk
- For the last few seasons Mercedes have had the dominant car but next year there's major rule changes - so no guarantee Mercedes will be the top team or even second
- There are some really talented younger drivers (Rosberg was one once) and with rule changes, risk taking, etc. Rosberg might not win the F1 title next year or the next... so go out on top

>> Verstappen is the one to be afraid of.
And the new cars next season mean Red Bull or McLaren Honda could be back near or at the top too.
