Our BT Hub3 was dropping the WiFi every few days and we were having to restart it. This had been going on for over one year, so on Tuesday I did a webchat thingy with the Broadband team. The guy in India was most helpful but suggested he ring me and he would put me through a technical team. This he did.
This evening we are now operational with a brand new Hub6, free of charge (delivered through the letterbox) meaning one less box in the study, and also they reduced our monthly rental by £6. Now they may not be the best value, and to some they are the devil, but over the years I don't think I have had too many problems with them and for my boys the £2.50pcm for BT Sport is well spent.

I must try that. We got BT Infinity here when it first became available. It's been pretty good but does drop out sometimes. My son keeps saying we need a new router thingummy.

It helped we had renewed the contract recently without 'upgrading' hence new modem/router FOC and improved terms. But I don't think their charges are so poor compared to competitors. Can't think how often (rarely) we use the land line these days.

I spent years dealing with this stuff and these companies. I have always said; BT are the least shit supplier. They are not good, but they are certainly the least shit.

That's all I've ever really aspired to in life in truth, being the least shit. Any occasions or events where I've managed better than that I count as a bonus ! 😉

It helps that BT has deep pockets, which means that they can occasionally solve a problem by just writing it off, rather than putting the customer through an endless succession of diagnostics.
Tesco is similar, in my experience. We've used their home delivery service for ten years and it's generally excellent. When they occasionally slip up, or something isn't to our liking, they always take our word and implement the remedy we suggest, because they can afford to.

Emma Chisset, WDB?
Virgin have increased our prices again. I discovered yesterday that as of this month I get
150Mb broadband 245 TV Channels A Jolly Clever Tivo box to watch them on A phone line with free evening and weekend calls
And that costs me £87 a month. It feels like a terribly large amount of money but I'm deuced if I can find an alternative that will save anything significant if I want to keep the bits that are kind of important to us, so far.

I really have no idea, Cranks. Sounds bizarre, I know, but we get fully-inclusive landline calls that - like everyone now - we barely use, unlimited Infinity (at 40Mb/s but capable of more, apparently), two voice and data SIMs for the teens, our btinternet.com email addresses that we've had since 1997, BT TV with the PVR and the option of the exact Sky channel we need to watch the cricket, and the excellent BT Netprotect Plus, which makes securing a home network much less of a hassle.
I really ought to check what we pay for all that but it isn't cheap. Does the job, though, so until the need to economize hits us, I'm inclined to stick with it. Should probably ditch that landline calls package, though.
