This is not a thread about which is better. They each have their own supporters, advantages and disadvantages.
But imagine we all decided that we were fed up with one of them - the same one - so we were left with only one universal operating system. Monopoly situation. Sounds dreadful. Thanks heavens for choice....

I am not a screaming side-ist. I am bi technosexual. This is being typed on Macbook air. Now. Later it might be typed on a windows PC, or an Android phone.
However. Apple does some things very badly indeed, and simply refuse to accept that and move to or stay on the right path. And I'll never forgive Apple for producing a phone that failed miserably in its primary role, that of a phone.
So its Android for me, never looked back since I moved over. Few do actually.

Mrs A, former Nokia employee, went Windows-Android-Apple. Wants android again for next phone. My smartphone history is Symbian-Android-Android. My current Huawei P8 is the best I've ever experienced, although battery life is getting shorter after a year's use. Am as likely to get an iPhone as I am a Mercedes or other 'prestige' brand car.
Oh, hang on........

I've never got on very well with Apple stuff, mostly I should think because I haven't used it much.
But my first 'smart' phone was an iPhone. I detested it. I would have stayed with Blackberry forever if someone hadn't given me an HTC, which I quickly loved. Android for me ever since though there is often iStuff in the family.

Apple's updated computers next week will almost certainly annoy some. Probably only USB-C and Thunderbolt. The laptops are said to be dropping the magnetic charger connection which was a brilliant idea.
When at uni I always preferred Linux and even OS/2 Warp on my PC to straight MS Windows. At Uni I used Sun and HP UNIX workstations.
I find Apple iOS too restrictive and prefer Android.

So the loss of the 3.5mm socket must come as a blow. 😱 I'm iOS and Windows, through force of habit. First smartphone was in pre-Android 2009 and I've just updated occasionally since. My only frustration with iOS and Apple is their insistence that I put my files on their servers just to share them between devices; a thing that does most of what a computer can needs some removable storage.

So the loss of the 3.5mm socket must come as a blow. 😱 As i have no intention of going anywhere near an Iphone 7, then no, its not a blow at all.

I have an iPhone, son has an iPhone, wife has a Nokia something. Son tells me that next time he changes he'd like a "Google" phone. Gawd knows what that is but he says they're good. Told him he'll have to save up for it if that's what he wants, I've not checked how much they are but knowing him it'll be about 70 Squillions plus VAT...

Hmm, The Lad had one. No more or less susceptible to being dropped, left in a pub or taxi etc while 'chemically inconvenienced' than a Motorola, I-phone, Samsung or whatever.
