I have cause to inform an occupational pension provider of the death of one of its members in receipt of monthly benefit.
So I find the details of the provider on line, and email them as directed with all the required detail I think they would require.
I get this reply.
Please note we deal with all of our cases in a strict date order from the date they are received, so you can expect a reply in due course. We are currently experiencing high volumes of requests and it may therefore be in the region of up to 8 weeks before you receive a reply from us, which is later than our usual response. However we will always endeavour to respond to you as soon as possible.
EIGHT EFFING WEEKS? WTF!
How can anyone in a business think that this is in any way acceptable, and worse, be proud enough to exclaim that in an automated reply. They have a duty to protect the assets of the scheme, yet they freely admit they are happy to allow two months of payments to go out before even looking at it.
Well thats fine, I have done my bit, they can whistle if they want to recover the overpayment.

Its enough to make you weep.
And i bet that's just the sort of company that will tell me I am too expensive, even when I offer to do it for a percentage of the savings.

And I can guarantee that they will demand the overpayment and demand it with menaces.

Running a company properly is really pretty simple. And its cheaper than running it badly.
Its a source of constant irritation to me that people don't do it properly themselves and resent paying people like me to do it for them. The standard argument being "but we can do it for ourselves!", ignoring the fact that they haven't done it in the last 10 years and won't do it in the next 10 either.
Mind you, the quality of most of the consultants in the world, or at least the people that call themselves consultants, is pitiful.

I'm sure you are very good at what you do, and I have met some who have helped companies to find their way, others though, well, probably best stop there...🤐

I'm sure that Otto would be very good at curing duplication of effort.

I am very very good. I am extremely proficient at what I do and achieving the required results. I will do any job for no salary or expenses and a share in the savings/gains. I am so good at what I do that these days they *always* turn down the offer of a profit/savings share and insist on a day rate.
I am, however, an oasis of professionalism in a desert of mediocrity and worse.
