What do you wish you'd kept? Not necessarily as a daily driver, but maybe as a plaything.
I've had a lot of cars, some workaday, some sporty, some mildly premium. But the one I wish I'd kept was my old MG Midget, navy blue with chrome wire wheels, chrome bumpers, black trim and hood.
By today's standards it'd be as slow as slow thing, handle like a brick, small as a small thing, thirsty as a thirsty thing and unreliable as an unreliable thing. But sometimes, just sometimes, I'd love to take it out on a sunny Sunday morning.
Do you have a long lost four wheeled love?

Ah jeez, I wish you hadn't done that ! Every time I've managed to convince myself that I don't ever need an Alfa, someone goes and mentions them again !
If I had a Brera, I wouldn't drive it much, but I'd stroke it a lot.😍

I've had loads of cars I've loved but I wish I had kept my MKIII Cortina.
I almost chose the Lancia Beta HPE, but in the end I think I'd rather have the Cortina.

Bizarrely, despite having owned/driven cars from a Fiat 127 to a BMW 730i (and including the current E350CDi), the car that I should have kept was the S-Max. It just did everything perfectly well. Was certainly fast enough, handled like a Ferrari despite having seven seats, great ride, despite being on rubber band tyres, loads of extras all of which worked perfectly for five years, comfortable, quiet, spacious, just as good on a long motorway trip as it was on the twisty bits.
Every other car I have owned has been a compromise in one way or another. Fast and rorty, but unreliable and flaky, smooth and comfortable, but not too great on the corners. Long cars with too little internal space, small cars that failed to excite or simply droned.
Who would have thought an MPV from Ford would be the perfect car?

No, I kind of get that Espada. I had a then new, Ford Galaxy when they first came out. Never wanted to like it but it suited my needs at the time. It was actually a very nice thing to drive and incredibly versatile. In fact I was so impressed with it that when it was time to change I decided to trade up to an Espace. Which was not my best decision...😫

I'd quite like to still have the diesel BX estate. Or an Issigonis Mini, a hoot to drive evne on less than 40bhp.

Actually, I don't know what has made me remember, but I think it was a question, might have been on HJ come to think, ( or some motoring advice column anyway ) where someone asked what car they should buy if they intended to keep it forever and put mega miles on it. The advice given was that a four cylinder Mercedes diesel RWD would fit the bill... Note the four cylinder thing ! So "neh neh neh" to the shonky 6 cylinder set !
( and "neh" again in case you missed that ! ) 😜

With the radio on, and the sunroof open, you can't hear the engine. And it gets 53mpg. So...well, you know...😝

53? Wow! Mine with the same basic engine has never broken 40 over a tankful. The more sophisticated gearbox and injectors must make quite a difference.
The only car I've got rid of too soon was my 1989 Escort. Not because it was a brilliant car - although I liked it a lot - but because I was seduced by the idea of something new and more refined that turned out to be a complete letdown. If I'd kept it till the offer of a company car came along 18 months later it would still have only been five-and-a-half years old and I've no reason to suppose not still running well.
That was my last two-door car too, until the chariot came along. I do like tipping the seat forward to put my jacket on the back seat.

Was very low on fuel at one point today, as in the light had been on for quite while so the tank must have been pretty low. Pulled into a filling station and the only free pump had only Shell V Power nitro diesel as opposed to normal stuff, being too impatient to wait or move I just filled up with the dear stuff. Reluctantly, I have to say, it does feel smoother as a result. Might be selective perception of course.
