It amused me that when we needed work on the chimney at the old house we needed scaffolding (I get that) but the scaffolders erected it without using any ladders and there was only a platform around the chimney.... So what about health and safety for the scaffolders putting the stuff up?

I thought you'd all like to know this job is finally, as of last Friday, sorted. Mrs C's "we should get the dining room decorated" has ended up costing £1500 for the repairs to sort the wet wall, £2000 for the decoration, (we chose at the last minute to put in thermal Wallrock, which is highly recommended if relevant to you, room is much warmer now), £200 for the curtains/curtain pole and £1100 for the carpet. So I'm about 5k down, and she hasn't yet started on any female accessories, cushions and dooberries.
For one room to be painted.
Sigh.

New dining suite then? Shouldn't be more than another couple of grand.
Happy Christmas...😅

Ooo. Wish I'd known about that when we decorated the house 5 years back. I expect we'll be doing it again in another 5 years so maybe then. Although not so sure that being unable to see any cracks is the best idea, you wouldn't know if a major problem was developing.

Well, I don't have any numbers, but I can say it's gone from "it's always a bit cold and unwelcoming in here" to "ooh, actually feels a bit more cosy, maybe we'll make this the centre of operations a bit more often".
This, ahem, is the room with the multifuel stove in it. It gets lovely in there when it's running. The other room has an open fire, which also gets cosy but nothing like as warm, and uses a lot more fuel. But we like that one at Christmas especially. And the third reception room, the new one, was built in 2008 and has Kingspan everywhere left, right, up and over, and boy is that one warm. Couple of small rads in there and it's always toasty, so Madam uses it as her reading room and all electronics are banned.
I faintly recall the costs of the stove, which went in pre "so many blinking regulations", but it was done to code at the time. It wasn't very cheap (as in two or three thousands I think, all up). And that was about 18 years ago.

Room feels nicer though.

Bloody good stuff though. I did the inside of an ex-cowshed, single skin of bricks. It made a HUGE difference.

I'd question the use of the word "whole". I don't think they're that complete when they're new.
