The News Quiz made a welcome return to R4 last Friday. I didn't have to wait till then because I was in the Radio Theatre on Thursday evening for the recording. The radio audience truly doesn't know the half of it; the whole thing lasted an hour and three quarters, with a solo welcome from the chairman before he even took the chair, then 20 minutes or so of unscripted rambling, mostly from Andy Hamilton about the travelator at the Bayeux Tapestry. Then the tune and the proper intro, followed by some questions and quite a lot more rambling. Great fun, quite rude in places, and FREE!
All right, we had a drink beforehand. And after, with something to eat. And I had to buy a Travelcard to get there. But the BBC part itself was FOC. Great value, and I'll be applying for some more shows soon.

We went to one of the Jules Holland "live' TV shows. They have a bar there to get everyone a bit uninhibited, the bands go through the sets for the recording portion of the show to be air'd later in the week, and then we have to go through all the cheering again for the "live" portion. And live it is! My missus claims she was at one of the 70's top of the pops. Didnt get groped by Saville tho. |
