There's a few articles around at the moment about Trump and why people support him. The BBC recently copied one form the US, albeit they changed a few words. in fact its been recycled all over the place;
He's not a politician
He says what we're thinking
He's a successful businessman
We agree with the Wall
We agree with his attitude to Muslims
He will make America great again
Other than the use of the word "America" it could be Farage.
Its easy to say that Farage and Trump are idiots; but clearly they are not. Against all the odds both have made political and financial capital out of their efforts within the political arena.
So a few things bother me;
When are all the other politicians going to realise that their behaviours over the last 20 years is 100% responsible for the presence of Farage, Trump and similar now. When will they realise that if they had actually listened to people, actually done the right thing, actually responded to what people wanted, rather than playing their clever clever dodge the questions games then the radical idiots would never have got through the door.
When are the Trump and Farage voters, and similar, and these are the truly scary people, going to take a step back, look at their views and realise that in quite large part they are nothing to be proud of, and unlikely to make any difference to the things that bother them.
Will the electorate ever think that opinions, understanding and knowledge ought to have a bit more than a passing acquaintance.
The world is frustrated. Stuff is not going the way they want. Politicians have become so clever at dodging responsibility, spinning reports and generally saying nothing that people are deeply deeply frustrated.
Somethings going to blow. And 10 years from now we may end up being grateful to the likes of Farage and Trump as we realise that they represented a cautionary tale and made everybody get a life..
But something is going to blow. It may already be blowing.
