The EU is really tough on Mobile Network Operators and Service Providers. REally, really tough. Charges within the EU are probably around 1/30th of what they would have been without the EU's involvement. Presumably the UK isn't worried about the implication of leaving the EU in this connection, because I understand there's consideration currently ongoing of the matter within the MNOs www.bbc.com/news/business-37318538

I remember my first mobile phone and contract. Paid close to £200 for the phone and the contract was close to £30pm. And if you used it to make calls they were about 40p a minute. The phone received but couldn't send texts.
Current SIM only contract is £19.20 per month. I get 12GB data/unlimited calls/unlimited texts per month in the UK. And in the EU when roaming I get 4GB data/unlimited calls and texts/apparently MMS too. And I get Spotify Premium for 12 months for free.
I think my current deal is a rip off ;-)

I remember my first mobile phone and contract. Funnily enough I was clearing out the accumulated junk in my hovel of a home office last weekend. Amongst other things I came across was the manual for the first mobile phone I had. It was a Motorola 8000 that our company MD decided that I needed after he couldn't get hold of me when I was out of the office. The battery on the 8000 would last about 8 hours on standby or less than an hour if you were on a call so I also had to have a car kit and spare batteries. What our MD also hadn't considered was that mobile phone coverage was much worse than the pager I already used so the phone was pretty useless, except as a posing prop for Gordon Gekko wannabes.
