And yet I compared MacBook prices in an Apple Store and found them to be within a rounding error of the UK equivalent. That was at 2014 exchange rates, though; might be a bit different now that a dollar costs a week's UK salary.

Isn't that the truth. About to leave Israel after a week. Since Brexit all costs for people thinking in Sterling have gone up by 20%. Ten years ago, the Pound/Shekel rate was £1 = 8NIS. It dropped after the Credit Crunch to £1 = 6NIS and hovered between 5.5 - 6.3. Now its £1 = 4.95NIS. Very painful. My son's gap year should have been about £14,000, now it's £17,000. Ouch! Friends who did it a few years ago, reckoned on £10k - £12k.
