Car Park Collapse in Tel Aviv

Thanks for the concern. I was on my way to Jerusalem when this happened. It was regretfully a simple construction problem, nothing more sinister. I have no more news other than what is on www.jpost.com. As far as I know, no one I know was involved but at least two people dead and probably up to seven more..

It is not uncommon to have multiple sub basement parking levels in Israel for larger buildings. The basic construction is a series of abutting concrete piles connected via a ring beam, creating a massive wall of the desired shape. They then dig out the ground inside, lay a concrete slab and build off that. Something has gone wrong, but it will be unusual as this is very much a tried and tested method.
