I'm not sure what I think about cars for the offspring.
They will certainly get something safe and reliable, but I shall probably give cool and pretty a miss. And they certainly will not be getting anything new or nearly new as a first car. Nor will they be driving any of mine.

Couple of young lads, brothers I'd guess, pulled up next to us yesterday in a mtb centre car park in an old ( 2002 ) Suzuki Vitara. They'd kitted it out with bike racks etc and at a glance their bikes were worth multiple times the value of the car. Ideal thing though for accessing forest tracks.

Son has manged to scrape the whole side on a metal post but the mechanicals remain A1. We were in the Lakes for the weekend and needed two cars to get there with all the stuff plus five of us. As the boys wanted to leave a day early to go to the Etihad to see City smash West Ham, the Punto was the second car. Well, using Sat Nav rather than Dad's usual route they got there an hour earlier than we did and the car was fine as it was on the way home. Still see lots of Puntos of that era around. All need now is an unmarked, rustfree shell to put the drivetrain and suspension onto.

Yes Aguero is pretty handy with that elbow, (when he is not raking his studs up someones calf). I doubt the three match ban will calm his nasty streak.

He's got the ban or you think he will?

He's got the ban or you think he will? FA are reviewing the video, we'll know then.

I'm happy to call a spade a spade, but I don't think Aguero is that dirty. Certainly he doesn't have that reputation in the press and there are plenty of other City players who have more yellow cards...At least we don't have any divers, unlike many teams.
I haven't seen the video but what will be will be. Not sure I want to be without him for the derby, but with Nolito, Sterling (now finally firing on all cylinders) and the boy Kelechi, we'll be fine.

In this particular incident he and Reid had been niggling each other all the way through. He lashed backwards with his elbow and missed, although it looked like his wrist may have caught Reid on the neck; Reid fell victim to the phantom sniper and collapsed.
Aguero needs punishing I think. Although if Reid had stayed on his feet, as I'm sure he could have done, then probably nothing would have come of it.
I like watching football, but professional footballers seem a pretty unpleasant bunch. And certainly the few I've met, including my two cousins, are most certainly obnoxious prima donnas.

Wasn't the Citroen Saxo the first car that came with young driver insurance included in its finance? Don't think so because my Escort Bonus 90, bought new in November 1989, came with a year's insurance and a deal with GRE (whose logo was an owl and whose telephone number was 0800 282820) to take me straight to full NCD in year 2. I still cite that as the best car I've had, simply because it represented the greatest incremental improvement over what I'd had before: nothing.

You financed a new Escort? What were you thinking?

That the sums made sense. Ford subsidized the interest, so the car cost me less than £6,500 over 36 months. I actually sold it after 47 months for £3,200 - and, as noted, the insurance deal saved me a four-digit amount too. No car is both truly cheap and reliable, but this did well on both counts. Nice shade of blue as well.
The real cockup was replacing it with an Astra; nice engine in a dreadful car, serviced by gorillas in boxing gloves. Should have kept the Escort until I could afford a Saab.

The trouble is I remember my time in the UK like it was solid block of consecutive years, forgetting that there were many substantial breaks when I was outside the country. Having just looked up Saxos I realise that they were a lot later than I thought.
My first "good" car was a Cavalier, paid for by my company at the time. I think it was a 2.0GL. Damn I was so proud. Brand new and all "mine". I really thought I'd made it. I remember picking it up on a Saturday morning, I couldn't stop grinning. I know, I know, it was a Cavalier, but I was dead chuffed.
Prior to that I reckon the most I'd paid for a car was about £1750, or something like that. I'd had some great cars, but all of them nearing the end of their life and requiring a fair amount of work to keep them going. I couldn't have imagined paying £6,500 for a car. Luxury.

My first job after university was in a division of a UK conglomerate with huge overseas assets based in former Empire countries. It was a shambles and was broken up a few years later. The higher echelons in my bit were a bunch of morons dedicated to achieving little other than living in Barratt Homes executive boxes and driving Vauxhall Cavaliers. I appreciate that as a spotty youth a nice new car is great, but aged 40 you would think their sights would be a little higher.

My thought on getting a car for my children when they hit 17 (5.5 years to go) is that a two seater might be the best option. Not something which sounds like a brilliant idea at first glance, but it strikes me that the worst accidents seem to happen to teenagers when they've stuffed their 5-seater hatchback to the gunnels with people they're trying to show off to, drive it like a maniac, hit a tree, everyone dead. So, only give them the capacity to carry one passenger and the risk of them feeling the need to show off to multiple persons is significantly mitigated. Christ knows what the insurance would be, but I reckon it's a theory. A 1-seater would be even better, but McLaren F1s might not be the best idea. So: www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201608166854973www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201608176885610Are there any 2-seater hard tops, apart from the Smart ForTwo ad the Suzuki X90 (worst car in the world ever)?
