On the way to Anglesey this morning the A55 ground to a halt one of the tunnels (was it before Penmaenmawr or Llanfairfechan). Eventually got going and nothing to suggest what the problem was.
Later on I looked on Google maps to work out the best route to somewhere near Menai Bridge and thought it odd that a long long section of the A55 west bound appeared shut. This was maybe 13:30 approx. Much later it was still showing as such.
Driving back I thought it was odd for a long section there was no westbound traffic.... Google showing the road was closed.... And indeed it was. Right at the Llanfairfechan roundabout there was a crane lifting a battered car, the remains of the lower part of an HGV cab (cab itself gone), police blocking road.... Then a huge tailback eastwards... Really long until just before Conwy. Then... no traffic westbound....
Further on they had shut the A55 westbound at Llandudno junction with now more tailbacks past Rhos on Sea and towards Colwyn Bay. Some serious holdups with no easy alternatives.
It seems the accident happened soon after I'd headed west to Anglesey later in the morning! This musth ave caused endless problems and I hope all involved are okay. A major road closed and the diversion is basically to Betws y Coed at the Llandudno junction and then back towards Bethesda/Bangor.
I bet Humph knows these roads well.
Pleasant day for us with temperatures around 26 degrees C. Only two days ago we had another nice day out on the Great Orme and had great views over to Anglesey so thought we'd do Anglesey today.
