I’m sure I’ve previously mentioned my in-law’s Ignis?
It’s a 2017 car. I think it might be a fairly high spec version as it has a lot of trim and toys. Anyway, they bought it new in July 2017. Looks kind of funky in red with black wheels and so on. Manual 1.2.
It has been sitting doing nothing much for 6 months as the the old guy has been pretty poorly. They’re both in their late 80s and he’s never going to drive anything again. MIL says she wants to keep it, but shows no interest in using it.
It had gradually become moss ridden and looked very sorry for itself. They have too much crap in their garage to get the car in, so it sits forlornly on their driveway.
Finally, my wife managed to persuade her mother to become the registered keeper (before that might be a hassle) and indeed to get her father off the insurance, but also to add my wife as a named driver so that at least it can be given a run out now and then.
Upshot is it is currently outside our house and I’ve just spent a morning checking it over and deep cleaning it inside and out. Remarkably, it started first time yesterday when my wife drove it back here.
Fluids look good (although it seems to have too much oil in it) I suspect he’s been topping it up when parked on their steeply angled drive.
Tyres were a bit under inflated but not too bad.
It has only done 6200 miles in 7 years, so now that it’s clean, it looks brand new.
Really it should be sold, but she’s just not ready to do that. We’ve tried pointing out that the insurance and tax alone are adding up to more than £700 a year plus any MOT/servicing costs bringing it up to around £1000 a year for something she hardly ever uses.
But I do sort of get it I suppose. I imagine I’d be reluctant to be without a car too, even at that age.
