The AC port on each side is so they can't straddle the parking bays at Aldi and use both 22kW chargers at the same time. Joking aside, I'll bet someone has attempted that.

The car’s software won’t allow both flaps to be open at once. Apparently.

The AC ports are on the wings - pretty similar location to a lot of PHEVs like BMWs.
The type 2 cable I had with the 330e would reach easily to either side and from a front or rear charging point. Only time I had difficulty was with a fixed 'Tesla' branded type 2 charger with embedded cable at a hotel. Not that I was desperate to charge but (free) charging would improve MPG.

A 5m Type 2 cable is no problem — although the dual flaps might be useful for on-street charging, to save draping a cable over the bonnet. But a CCS cable is a different beast; if it was 5m long it would be hard to lift, so you really want the port as close to the pillar as possible. 1.5m is plenty. Here’s the excellent Robert Llewellyn nosing up to an Instavolt pillar designed with rear ports (and possibly LHD Etrons) in mind. I’d rather keep that heavy, possibly gritty cable off the paint of my heavily-depreciated but still expensive car. 😬 One situation does occur to me, though, which is carrying bikes on a long trip. The carrier adds only a metre or so to the length, so a cable like this one still ought to reach. But it will take some careful reversing without the help of sensors to get close enough to be sure. I wonder if 360° cameras can cope with this situation.

I have seen it with my own eyes. An Audi was parked on the no-parking hatching at a service station near Warwick blocking access to two chargers. Madness
