Having had four cars with ‘deletable’ badges, but only one where I actually got to decide for myself, I find it quite hard to care what anyone else thinks.
I ordered the S60 in 2002 without a D5 badge because it was nobody else’s business what engine it had, and if I needed reminding, I probably wouldn't get out and look at the boot lid.
The E220 came without badges, and I suppose I regretted the missing E more than I feared being embarrassed by the 220.
I can’t quite remember whether the 325 coupé had badges or not! I think probably not — but did that make it a 330 wannabe or a stealthy step up from a 320?
And now I have a full-fat CLS350 and it has the badges to prove it. It’s a lot of lettering on both rear corners and I suppose the car might look better without but I can’t say it troubles me much either way.
On balance, I reckon less is generally more with badging. But it clearly matters to some, hence Audi’s daft 30-40-50 system to keep it alive now fossil displacements are no longer relevant.

I am surprised BMW didn't take the i3 and make a cheaper MINI… Cheaper than the Mini, Rob? Seems unlikely, given the carbon composite in the i3. Or a cheaper i3 with Mini badges? Politics may have prevented that, as it would have had to be built in Leipzig, not Cowley and had little Teutonic crosses in the tail lamps.

I meant a derivative of the i3 with MINI branding. And to reduce costs some of the composites could have been ditched if possible. Don't know why location of assembly is so important either. MINIs are assembled outside of the UK (and Europe). Even VW assemble some Bentley's not designated for the UK in Germany.

Looking at the PDF and scanning through the page I can't see any information regarding the battery size, charge ability or price. The Countryman E has very similar figures; 150kW motor, 450+km range to the EV my wife runs the design of which is four years old.
I'm sure the people of Leipzig will be grateful for the continuity of the plant post i3 & i8 just not sure how big the market will be for a product that doesn't appear to move any goalposts.

Would you buy one ? Serious question. Serious answer: no. I’ve never much liked the twee Mini design language, and the few I’ve been inside have felt plasticky and generally quite unpleasant. Given that most models have a BMW equivalent with a much more grown-up feel, I’d far rather have the BMW.

Reading the link you posted it looks like Leipzig is going to be battery central which then raises the question what is going to become of Cowley ?

That article in the Oxford Mail is six months old, the report from last Friday suggests 900m€ has been invested in Leipzig for e-components.
It's feasible both plants are being developed in tandem as £½bn is a drop in the ocean for plant upgrades.
