[As for dual nozzle fillers... there were cars with dual fuel tanks and therefore two nozzles. You had to manually switch from one tank to the other. Jaguar XJ wasn't it? These are dual nozzle fillers on a Sesto Elemento:

Surely not necessary, as filling up with petrol is so quick and convenient. 😈

It's not road legal, track only car. You made my point though, no one ever said I need a faster refill time for diesel or petrol road going cars.

Some EVs with 800V systems are able to split that into two separate 400V systems for charging purposes. I am sure I've read of at least one cat that will allow it to be plugged into two chargers at the same time for faster charging. The electric feline - there's a new mode of transport for you!

Remember when the cat(alytic converter) was going to be the end of the motoring world? Reliability problems, expensive maintenance, finite lifespan, ruinous replacement costs...? Perhaps I was on holiday and missed the apocalypse, but there are eerie echoes of it in the naysaying over the energy and EV transition.

I put my planned route for next summer to southern Italy into the Shell Recharge app. for our old tech 400v car with 64kWh battery. It reckoned 11 stops were necessary for charging. I then recalculated for a 2024 800v EV6, 8 stops required.
Interestingly, neither car could get out of Germany without 4 stops to recharge, that was with autobahn speed set to 110kph.

Odd. The BMW app reckons I could get to Edinburgh (more than 100km farther than Köln-Basel) on two charge stops. And that’s a less efficient machine than an EV6 — and the app knows it’s only 80 percent full now.
I tried a route all in Germany but it likes to start from where the car is now and ferries confuse it.

How far does the Shell app say an EV6 can travel at 70mph in the summer using say 70% charge? I'm sure the I5 would 150 miles minimum.

The Audi Q6/SQ6 e-tron will be able to split the 800V battery into two with each capable of taking up to 135kW. It's to do with charging stations with 400V rather than 800V technology so it splits the battery pack into two equal smaller batteries and charges them at 400V. You don't plug in two leads - the battery manaegement handles it.
This is the PPE architecture. So will be on Porsches, Bentleys, Lamborghini, etc. too I guess.
And of course I didn't mean cat's although the petrol car with two filler flaps is a cat.

This is the trip we made four up in my petrol estate, that car needed one top up from ¼ to full while people took a comfort and food recharge. ESoul 3 up, 79% departure, 20% arrive charge Then switched cars to 2024 long range, single motor EV6, same passengers, same start end charge: This time the EV6 is three charges to otherside of Basel, this morning it showed the same charge stops. This looks more realistic given the bigger battery. Edit: ran the same route, same passengers and charge states for iX40:

I5 2021 AWD Long Range:
The new EV3 long range will do it in 3 stops apparently.

A colleague has just picked up a new Volvo EX30 extended range single motor. Will provide some comments once he had had it for a month or so.

Interested to hear what they think.
Reading on the Volvo owner's website some are saying it's the first Volvo that doesn't feel like a Volvo.
I'm looking at a diesel hybrid, got an offer for my Focus. I've said I'll go in after the October holiday if the car is still available.

Well, that was disappointing. Went to test an E300de. The boot is wider than my Focus, a little deeper but not massively so. Behind the wheel a lovely place to be but what have they done with the rear seat legroom ?
The front seats are narrower than the Recaro branded seats in my Focus, they do have excellent adjustment, the under thigh support was perfect for me.
A little less bonnet and more rear seat legroom would have seen the car on my driveway.

Not many diesel hybrids to choose from are there?
I remember when diesel and automatic transmission seemed to be mutually exclusive too. Citroen were one of the first to crack it for the mainstream market ISTR?
