I've had the Mazda6 for just over 5 days so early days. I said on various threads I had been considering what I'd get after finishing work and I nearly got a Mazda6 in 2014 but the hand book warned about pacemakers and my late mother-in-law had one as did my mother in the end.... Could not get a definitive answer so avoided. It drove nicely.
Fast forward and a few face lifts later and some of the negatives had gone - inside the ICE was origianally very poor and the heating controls a bit chunky... Quality was not 100%.
Some of my criteria now were to prefer:
- Petrol
- Non-turbo
- Torque converter auto
Does not leave many cars... Mazda 6 was one. And the 2.5 GT Sport Nav+ would have been nice. And one appeared just after my mother died. I think that was fate. I now like the light interior and had i got one in 2014 it would have been in Soul Red.... now I prefer metallic black.
My Dad would have liked it.... he liked cars and at one point ran a taxi. And laterally (and earlier in life) he had a big black car to do weddings. He'd have liked this one. But he dies in 1980.
It drives and rides really well. Considering there are no adaptive dampers it is really comfortable on 19" rims. And the steering is direct and responsive. But it's a Mazda.
Options I like and glad it has:
- Sunroof
- Adaptive radar cruise control
- Blind spot monitoring plus rear traffic alert
- 360 degree camera
- Auto of course
- Climate cooled seats
- Heated steering for the winter
- Android Auto / Apple CarPlay
- Electric seats with memory function
I'd prefer it did not have keyless entry.
So far I am happy. It was a bit more than I planned spending but at some point it is covered from some inheritance.
Mostly done motorways and major A roads. I had planned to do part of the Woodhead or Snake Pass today.... It's how I tested my previous Mazda6 with it's Xenons against the Mondeo and then the bi-Xenon Passat CC.... Got to the end of the M67 and there was a queue. So I got fuel a bit cheaper at that Tesco and came home.
Thursday I'll be off to north Wales.
It's a very nice car. Pictures to follow when it's been washed again.
I think I might average low to mid 30s for MPG with higher possible on motorways. I will never get near the top speed of about 140mph. It's not fast but does approximately 8s 0-62mph. Not as quick as the 330e for sure. But it feels nicer.
The GT Sport Nav+ has a digital display (TFT) instead of the speedometer. But it looks like a speedo with some variations possible. They have it spot on rather than being 'different'.
When I set off on Saturday for South Wales the head up display was in kph.... so I thought I'd sort it later. Then I realised the speedometer was also in kph. Switched to kph and back in the menus. Figured out the stalk/button to change some of the speedo display switches between mph/kmh at a single short push. That explains what I did.
Could I have got more/better for the money... probably.
