At the time I thought it had the look of a Ferrari of some sort - it was more filler than bodywork. Which suggested it might be some sort of project car. Zooming into the image I see the the front badge says Dino and on the grille there's a prancing horse. So maybe it's a replica Dino work in progress built off a VW Beetle chassis?? Or maybe the plates being transferred recently now it's on the road an was a Dino?

Hmmm. Certainly has the look of a kit car about it.

Forced to choose between that and a squashed BMW…
…I think I might prefer to walk.

The under-40s are far too busy … to worry about the town’s uncompromisingly modern architecture or the hum of cars on the four-lane inner ring road.
Went to Winchester yesterday, which meant two traverses of the Inner Distribution Road. It’s as charming as it always was — but then I’m no longer under 40.

Yes it was a bit of blunder in hindsight, that road, but that was the 60s for you. Hard to see where an outer one would have gone given the utter refusal of parochial, Tory-led Oxfordshire, Wokingham and West Berkshire to let anyone do anything for the benefit of Reading. Ironic you complain about the aesthetics of a road which you are quite happy to use in order to save what would otherwise be lengthy and tedious detours - bringing pollution (if you weren't in the i3) and congestion into the town without any benefit. This isn't a dig at you - everyone is entitled to use the roads, just pointing out the flip side.
I think the comment about modern architecture is a bit much (I know it's not yours, but a quote). It isn't uncompromising at all. It's not exactly Bracknell here, and if you stroll the streets of the town centre (maybe spend a quid in our excellent independent shops, bars and restaurants) there really is some beautiful and varied Victorian brickwork around the place. Then there's the Abbey ruins, and a fair bit of Georgian and pre-Georgian building has survived. The only parts where modern architecture prevails now is on the the sites of former industrial land, and even then some of the interesting old industrial heritage buildings have survived and been repurposed (Huntley and Palmers Head Office for example). Point is, it's a working town, and continuously develops as such. It isn't trying to be a chocolate box lid. And that's one of the reasons given for it being a good place to live, particularly for the young - work opportunity, without the need to commute.

Yes, traffic of any kind brings problems in towns. I mostly resent Reading for just being in the way and taking so long to cross to get to anywhere south or west of here. I quite often take the A329(M)-M4 route instead, which is two sides of a triangle but keeps me moving and out of the town centre. That's more of a benefit in the CLS, as I was on Saturday, as I'm burning fossils away from people; the i3, like the Leaf, encourages the direct route. But this time we wanted pastries from the Caversham Co-Op, so the town centre route it was - in company with a lowered white Corsa with too much exhaust, whose driver kept us all amused by zigzagging his way into imaginary gaps on the A33 trundle. I don't think the Sunday Times article mentioned him, except I suppose as one of the under-40s.

Being an inveterate oik myself, I'd have given him a race in the little turbo charged loan Corsa I had recently. I'm quite missing that little car, it was truly brilliant. Had someone in a middle aged ordinary spec Fiesta trying to burn me up round the IDR this morning. I was happy to let him go and have him in front of me where I could see him.
Best pastries in Caversham are at the Geo Cafe, but you probably know that as they've recently opened up a second branch in your town. The chip shop by that Co-Op is pretty decent if you're ever passing and in need of some filth - you can admire the bikes in the cycle shop whilst you're at it too.
I resent Oxford and Birmingham being in the way when I want to go north.

It’s mildly interesting how accurately predictable the contents of certain cars can be. We found ourselves in want of an Aldi visit on Saturday. Having completed that onerous task, we were loading our car when a lairy looking red RS Focus swung into the car park with unnecessary haste. Body kitted to within an inch, lowered, spoilered, bestickered, over wheeled, over exhausted and generally shouty thing, it slewed to a halt a couple of parking spaces from us. The critters that emerged from it were entirely in character. The male driver, probably mid-20s, a short, obese, mouth breather with his head shaved at the back and sides and a small patch of permed hair balanced atop. Track suit bottoms and a hoody. His female companion, a sort of modern interpretation of Olive from “On the Buses”. Somehow, they couldn’t have been more in tune with their mode of transport.

I expect it was his granny's car, only she sprained her ankle at the dog track a fortnight ago and hasn't been able to drive, so she asked him to give it some exercise. He's a lovely lad, always helpful. You'd like him if you bothered to get to know him.

Sadly, time pressure meant we had to forfeit the opportunity to form any real relationship with them. Sometimes life just passes you by doesn’t it?

Although, had time allowed, I think I might have passed muster. “She” made me wear that Puffa jacket thing again on Saturday. Fortunately, we didn’t see anyone we knew.

I was bought a puffa type jacket at Christmas. It's brown. But not just any brown. It's metallic, shiny, sparkly brown. I have not worn it yet.
I like brown. But even I have limits.
