And it offered no reward for coming third, which does seem an odd way to stay in an elite tournament. Football is a bit all or nothing like that, very few remember the runners up therefore asking the two semifinal losers to have another go, and one team losing that game, is just cruelty for the sake of it. Nobody cares who comes third. It's just another four or five days hanging around, for what ?

I meant third in the group, as Scotland hoped to do yesterday. But yes, third-place playoffs are presumably done only for ranking points and the money that goes with them.

Well we've still got two teams in the competition in this household. Serbia will likely go home with Scotland, and England will likely fall as soon as they meet a proper team. Same old same old.

By that logic, Al the are still sixteen teams in the tournament after Wednesday for your household.
Serbia, England and, as a Scotland supporter, anyone who plays England to steal the rugby joke.

Not the case with me. Don't understand that mentality. It's anyone but Wales in my case.

I just haven't engaged with these Euros. Not had much time to watch the matches to be honest although it seems to me that every Manchester City player in the tourament apart those playing for England, are having a good time. Why can't we get the best out of Foden and play Stones in the mid-field?
If you have the best player in the Premier League on your team you need to play him where he likes to be played, and give him the service he needs.

So pleased that I was driving to work this morning and couldn’t sit at home watching Ingerlund 😂

I missed the whole thing too. I’ve heard it wasn’t a thriller.

Zzzzzzzzz
So that's 2 of this household's teams out now, both bottom of their groups with only 1 point. Serbia scoring only one goal, which was one fewer than Scotland, so I reckon that means they finish 24th, to Scotland's 23rd. A small victory chez nous then.

Bad luck. Given that two thirds of the teams stay in, you had an 8/9 shot of at least one of yours making it.

On the face of it you're right, but we were always going to be 2 of the weakest teams in the tournament.
Well we're on the England bus too, they're my daughter's first team and the rest of us will always cheer them on against anyone but our own first teams, so we've got one dog in the fight for another round at least. Shame it's such a boring dog. I'm hoping The Netherlands will bring their A Game in the next match, and spark the snoozing bulldog in to life. One day I'll pick a team, in some sport or other, which will win something. One day. Even the Aussie rules team I picked (St Kilda) never wins anything. My boys in Belgrade, Partizan, rarely win titles these days, but I suppose I do have Sliema Wanderers in Malta who are one of the top local teams.

I think young Gareth has done a fantastic job. Qualified top of the group while giving absolutely nothing away of what the team is capable of.
Crafty bugger even appears to have swapped Sunderland's Jobe Bellingham in for Real Madrid playing brother, Jude in the last couple of games.

I watched the match; well, kept half an eye on it whilst drinking beer and doomscrolling. Not really exciting; in fact the only exciting game so far was Netherlands v Austria.
Come on!!! let's have some attractive football.. I can't wait for Pep to take charge of a national team; it will be either an unmititgated disaster or total success, but whatever, it will be interesting.

Turkey v Georgia was the best game of the tournament so far, IMHO.

Was that the one with the comedy own goal? Those are always a treat.
