In April 2018 I imported my bike to Germany, it was already here, I switched the registration from UK to German.
I'd had a light accident in the March where I came off and snapped the brake lever, I switched both the brake and clutch lever to aluminium items. The import process is TÜV test, reserve and buy a licence plate, fit that then down to local admin centre to complete the paperwork. All done, no questions. 2020 TÜV test due, completed no questions asked. 2022 TÜV failed on brake and clutch lever, no KBA type approval documents.
I contacted the engineering company in the UK if they had an ABE or KBA approval document as they sell worldwide. No, they weren't even aware of such a thing.
Due to the parts not being on the 'official' documented parts list with KBA they have to be removed. Fair enough, 200€ for a replacement set which look identical but have the all important KBA stamps and supporting paperwork.
Funny old thing, rules. How they can catch you out several years after the event.

Sounds like a closed shop to me, making money unnecessarily for the regulators.
One of the things that annoys me about Brexit is the fact that we need to have our own regulations for products. Unless something is very specific to the UK market why not simply say that EU regulations are fine by us. Why make companies spend more money on proving items are safe when we know they are. The Yanks managed to change their stupid sealed beam headlight regulations eventually, when they realised their regulations made cars that were less safe at night than European/Japanese ones.

Got to get those furlough €uros back in the coffers.
I thought they were being very picky when I had the Volvo in for test last November. They really were prodding and poking around the track rod end on the driver's side. No issue was found, it was fine, it did appear excessive scrutineering though.
