Very pretty, I’m sure, but the car in the picture is all bonnet. And the comments in the interview are indecipherable. Nice that they’re planning something distinctive but I don’t think it’ll work for me.

Of the cars listed how many are doing OTA updates with new features on a regular basis ? Brave new world, move away from traditional motoring then you've got to consider these features and functionality in the equation.

Hard to get enthusiastic about many new cars at the moment, whilst they are unavailable or subject to long waiting times. Probably impossible to find the colour and spec you want without a long wait.
And I can’t imagine that many car salespeople care a hoot if they are just selling anything they can get?

The little devil on my shoulder is whispering that it would be fun to put down that fully-refundable option-to-purchase deposit. After all, fully refundable. Can’t cost me anything, right?

Wikipedia tells me it’s only 4,515mm long, so probably too small for our four-up needs. Pretty, though.
The G70 looks like a design from about 2013. So perhaps a bit modern for Vić. 😛

Mad idea, perhaps, but could I buy an Approved Used 2019 iPace? If anything electric can match the CLS for sense of occasion, that could be it. It’s a nice size and height — not to be mistaken for a mummy-wagon crossover — and I really like the way it rides and holds the road: sportier than the CLS but always smooth and composed, which bodes well for longer journeys.
It’s not the most efficient, getting through the megajoules about 36 percent faster than an EV6 (although still only a third as fast as the CLS) but the big battery would still get it to York non-stop. I might have to convince the family that there’s enough space in the back but the boot is big and well shaped and the car will take a towbar, so bikes can come along.
Considering that long, four-up journeys will now be very rare for us — and extra drivers offer the option of bringing a second car on holiday — it feels like it might work. And even a seven-year-old iPace ought to retain a useful amount of value in 2026, so cost of ownership should be manageable. And, of course, I can do it next week if I want, not wait eight months for a factory build.
I can hear myself talking myself into this idea. I bought the CLS because it did the job and had some extra nice-to-have factor. This has some of the same, but in 2020s terms. Care to talk me out of it.

Lots of reports about awful and unreliable software in the i-Pace. The Korean twins (triplets?) will be supremely reliable.

Last May it was apparently worth £10,000. At the peak of the car shortage, that became £13,000. It’s presumably set to fall now as the cost of living crisis squeezes buying power. Even a three-year-old iPace is north of £40,000 so there’s some serious maths to do to make it work.
The eco-logic, as explained on Radio 4 the other week, is that while my diesel CLS won’t disappear, it’ll displace something older and smellier on someone else’s drive and, a couple of places downstream, push something seriously malodorous into a scrapyard. Not that I won’t be sad to see it go, but it’s already closer to nine years old than eight, and will have been mine for nearly five of those. And it took us to Lake Constance to see the Zeppelins, which is all I really wanted. 🤠

That eco-logic actually makes sense. The lack of logic of the London ULEZ does not. Forcing poorer families to change a reliable car when they cannot afford to is just bonkers.
I like the look of the iPace but think that it will date very quickly compared to models which are just that bit newer and have better range/economy/charging performance.
Like you I bought my E350 for some longer trips which it was just perfect for and lasted for six years doing just that. I miss it now, but once the Ioniq arrives it will be quickly forgotten, I'm sure (I hope!).
