Lots of spectacular scenery, but poor roads and little public transport, so you will need time. And also a Covid vaccine passport to enter many eateries and public buildings... until the control-freak dictator in charge decides to give the country some slack.
Bring lots of money too; the economy is crumbling and prices are spiraling. The government has also just announced that we won’t strive to return to the mass tourism of pre-Covid, but go for higher quality, i.e. price the country at the premium end of the market....
(Could do with some more premium accommodation options first though).

NZ is so far away that for most people that presumably your view of mass tourism and that of Spain or France must be a little different...

I think you might be surprised EspIII, all those final salary pensions won't spend themselves. The demographic might be more bedtime Horlicks than Ibiza Town though.

Barely 5 million residents in NZ and pre-Covid visitor numbers were over 2m a year. Infrastructure could barely cope!
The government wants to defer the cheap backpacker tourists in future... but that’s the demographic that picks all the fruit, works in cafes etc and keeps the economy going!
20 quid/hour currently being offered to help pick kiwifruit out here at the moment, in the absence of cheap labour..!
