The CLS in M mode does this too (as, presumably, does Humph’s E.) But if I’m doing something complicated enough to require me to take manual control of gear selection, I’m probably not going to be looking at the bottom of the speedometer to see what gear the computer recommends.

I use the flappy paddles to have a bit of, admittedly rather lame, "fun" sometimes. My Civic pretty much performs and handles like a previous generation hot hatch, it is really quite good fun when I'm out on A and B roads on my own. Which is the main reason I'm prevaricating about selling it, when the sensible financial thing to do is indeed sell it at the moment. I owe under £7k on it now, and have had offers this week at £12k on an internet car buying platform. I paid £13k over 2 years ago.

Funnily I miss it too, in our Aygo. But not, of course, in the i3. Another thing that won’t matter for much longer. But while we’re doing irritating design decisions, who thought it would be a good idea to number rev counters with a 10-20-30 scale that’s too similar to the speedometer to avoid confusion? (Especially if you have a VW group car that puts the tacho where the speedo ought to be, and something else where it’s in the right place.) The Punto speedo and revcounter are very easy to confuse; both are simply 10, 20, 30 etc. I am sure a few Punto drivers have been caught speeding in the suburban environment because they mistook the revs for the speed. Harder at high speed when the car in noisier.

My Focus has flappy paddles which I use for slowing for roundabouts and slip roads. The FordPass app has a section which rates my driving. Put the car in self drive mode and it reckons the car is being driven too aggressively for braking, acceleration and cornering. Not sure who thought some eco monitor was a good match for their ST model.

I usually have my 330e in standard hybrid mode, especially in the winter. Eco pro reduces effectiveness of the aircon but will also make it less willing to accelerate although it goes very well. It will accelerate well in all electric mode even though that is only about 115PS but instant torque of course.
But if I want some fun or joining say a motorway that I know might have a busy lane 1 and 2 I'll put it in sport mode. And might as well have it with Xtraboost too. Now it accelerates a lot quicker because of the throttle mapping and if you call on the electric motor too it really goes quite quickly. Fastest accelerating car I've had: 0 - 62mph in 5.9s. Not sure I'd want to try that on the road in a Tesla Model S Plaid!

The i3 in EcoPro offers ‘EcoPro climate control’ as a default option that can be switched off. I have switched it off, because the range saving is marginal and not usually important to me, but I do appreciate the easier one-pedal operation in EcoPro. And I like being warm.
