Daytime, thank goodness. Not sure we were cut out for simultaneous WAH.

Here's another bit of the picture. The CLS is due a service in a few weeks, so I started looking for MB dealer quotes. Last year's was about £300 as I recall, so I checked the same again. This time it's a 'B' service, which means brake fluid and air and fuel filters. Eight hundred and three flippin' quid! Of which the three 'special' items contribute nearly half.
Vić's specialist in Reading reckons it can do a B service for £245 with OEM everything. I actually really liked the place that did the MoT on Thursday, which claims MBs are one of its specialities, so I'm wondering whether it's time to break my rule of MB workshop for routine items. I could have the local blokey do the fluid and filters, then take it to MB Reading for a once-over and a tick in the box, without quite such an 'Open wide please, sir' to the wallet. (Not that I actually carry a folding wallet any more. Does anyone?)
Looked at another way, an £800 service equates to about 20p for every mile the car has travelled this year. That's more than it costs in fuel.

B9 service for mine this week. Local indy doing it again.
Also about £245 plus the extra bits. He knows I intend to sell it, but also knows someone who wants to buy it, so I need to do them all...

I fell in to the same pitfall with my A1 earlier this year WdB. Annual service due in March, but because I wasn’t using the car and had only done around 4000 miles since last year I left it for a couple of months.
Decided to get it done at the end of May and Audi dealer stung me for over 500 quid. The car hasn’t done even 150 miles since then. No more main dealer servicing from now on... if I haven’t sold the car in the new year.
Paying for a car that you aren’t using seems especially irksome!

Civic is in for service today at the Honda dealer. £200 for the standard oil and filter service, not even getting any of the other filters done for that, plus £126 for valve clearances. I've only gone with the main dealer because of the paintwork which needs looking at, but I expect they'll refuse to cover that under the warranty so it'll be a futile exercise. Definitely the last time it's going to a main dealer. Next service is the biggest one with spark plugs and brake fluid and fuel filter and all that. I'm going to do as much of it myself as possible I think - oil, oil filter, air filter, pollen filter. Get a garage to do sparks, fuel filter and brake fluid. I'd have a go at the sparks but I'm nervous of doing damage with my utter hamfistedness on the tools.
Not that it needs a bloody service these days in any case.

Dealer called with "healthcheck" results - rear brake pads 75% worn (would that have been mentioned on the MOT which it passed without advisories?), wiper blades starting to split, and they wanted £34 to replace them, so that was a no thanks I'll do it myself, and a door seal going on the driver's side rear door apaprently. Hmm. I'll have a look at that myself when I pick it up. Bit of waterproof silcone sealant and job done, I expect. I can get a set of baldes off carparts4less for under £12 using the current discount code.
I might get some brake pads myself and take up a friend's offer of showing me how to change them - he's being doing his own for years and currently has a BMW M3, Honda FRV and two motorbikes which he does the brakes on, so he knows what he's doing.
Healthcheck my eye, sales opportunity really. I'm spending enough today already thanks.

Volvo have dangled the hook, 69€ for oldie Volvo service. All the belts, fluid, tensioners, filters were changed two years ago.
I think they'll go after pitted or corroded brake discs through lack of use and 2 year brake fluid change. I can do the fronts myself, rears bit more fiddly with the electric handbrake which is an early implementation of this tech and a bit choosey about how they are unwound and reset.
TüV test is due next month.

If I intend to keep the car for years then I don’t mind coughing up one day a year - at reasonable prices - to have everything fettled “professionally”. That’s what I am doing with the Mitsubishi, also keeping its extended manufacturers warranty intact.

As expected the Honda dealer are saying there's no warranty claim on the paintwork. They examined it and concluded that the area has had a paint repair in the past and that's why it's dodgy. Not their fault, guv. So much for "APPROVED USED". Oh well. They want £300 to respray the entire panel, so I took it to Chips Away this morning for an estimate and I await their verdict by email. Nice surprise when I got there, the manager turned out to be a former football coach of my son's who recognised me, so always good to have a personal connection like that. I have purchased all 3 wiper blades and the rear brake pads from CarParts4Less for under £40. And some silcone sealant from Amazon for £3.59. All that work would have been about £450 at the dealer - they wanted £134 for a door seal. So the service, paintwork and these other bits and bobs would have set me back a grand or so, for a car I barely use and is supposed to be a low maintenance nearly new car.

Have you no comeback to the dealer on the previous repair on an Approved Used car?

Not according to them I don't. I haven't examined my paperwork though. But in any case after 2 years of my ownership they can always say "prove the repairs were done before you bought it".
Life's too short for this rubbish. I sometimes genuinely despise human society, that trust and honesty and good faith are such rare qualities.

Chips Away quote = £264.10.
So only £36 more for a proper body shop to do it.
I think I'm going to ignore it unless and until one of those blisters starts to break.

Annual service day for the Outlander coming up on Monday. Seems a trifle absurd considering it’s barely done 5000 miles over the past year, and probably only 50 miles since Christmas.
Oh well, probably worth it since we plan to keep it fit and ready for the next 5 years at least.

If you plan on keeping it then probably the best money you'll spend. Fresh oil and filter in the motor, change of brake fluid, check the Aircon system maybe service and a general prod and poke to see if something should be attended to sooner rather than later.
Or you can take it to a main dealer, removes tongue from cheek.
