I’ve got 2 garden ornaments at present. Well, one is garaged but SWMBO has surrounded it with plants and garden materials, so it looks like it’s receding in to nature...
Gave the Scooby a quick rinse to shed it of the fine yellow pollen dust that accumulates in every nook and cranny at this time of year. On close inspection I have discovered that the entire (white!) roof is speckled with a million tiny black tar spots! Somebody evidently must have removed them from the bonnet at some point in the past, and now I need a gallon of elbow grease and tar remover for the roof. A weekend job methinks...
Had to start and move the A1 to allow the builders access to the garage. Starts fine, but for a couple of seconds initially there’s an almighty clattering noise, which I can only assume is the timing chain because it’s starved of oil on startup? A worrying noise. Never had it before, but then again I have never left the car standing for weeks at a time before, which presumably allows every last drop of oil to gradually drain its way back to the sump? Or am I just kidding myself that a large bill isn’t far away?! Should I just get shot of it? Hey, Al, all yours for £2950 provided that you come and collect it 😂

Yeah, not enough leg room in the back, anyway.

The dealer here will give me 6 grand Al, so you’d be missing out on a helluva bargain 😂.
Anyhow, we’ll see what noise it makes when it gets started again in about 2 months time...
De-tarred about half of the Scooby roof last night. Bit of a stretch - it’s a deceptively tall car. Very flimsy metal on the roof too, would be quite easy to dent it by applying too much pressure. Guess it will need a wax/polish afterwards too... Then again, short people won’t ever see the roof.

I have done a nasty boo boo to the Civic.
I have just remembered, prompted by the change from GB to UK in the news, that the GB sticker on it is magnetic.
You've guessed it.
The paint has bubbled under it.
Gah.
No way am I going to convince Honda to fix it under warranty when it goes in for its (wholly unnecessary) annual service next week.
Both barrels, please. Let me have them.

How? Why? I've had magnetic stickers on cars before and they haven't affected the quality of the paint (colour maybe)...

I was wondering the same thing. Some electrochemical effect of the magnet, allowed to continue for too long?

Well, maybe I've got a case for a paintwork warranty claim then? We'll see, it's booked in for service next Monday, I've asked them to look at it. I'm not expecting a positive reply though, they will undoubtedly tell me it's my fault and comes under "neglect". I'm girding myself for having to respray the panel. The tailgate and bumper are plastic, so it had been on this panel - you can see the raised paint in the second picture. Attachments:

No idea but I struggle to explain how it might happen if the top lacquer coat was doing its job. Maybe the lacquer was incomplete and allowed moisture trapped behind the plate to penetrate and lift the paint. Don’t know, but play it straight and you may get a hearing.
In other minor niggle news, I’ve just paid my £25 excess to Admiral for a chip repair to the CLS’s windscreen. It was tiny (about 8mm long) and only obscuring my view of the bonnet, but it was in the 290mm zone of proximity to the steering wheel so it seemed worth doing pre-MoT. Then, of course, matey’s parting comment was, “You know you’ve got another one, don’t you?” I didn’t — it’s way over on the left, just above the parked wiper. So probably not an MoT issue but probably one to get sorted too. Makes a change from tyres, I suppose.

OK. My initial reaction was that it must be a common problem and of course would be my fault, so thanks for the comments.

Ok well, you could I suppose, get a UK sticker and cover the marks with that.
Or a Maltese one of course.

I don't want to put anything else on it now in case it actually removes the paint. I'll be putting the UK sticker on the glass next summer...

One of those chips away type blokes might be able to fettle it.

Yes I wondered about that. If Honda knock me back I'll take it to my local Chips Away for a look.
