That GT looks good Al! Can’t believe they have been around since 2009; they really aren’t prolific are they?

Believe it or not, the GT first caught my eye way back then because, at a time when BMW was selling RHD 5s with LHD wipers, this was one I’d be able to see out of in the rain.
The GTs are popular in China, apparently, where people who can afford them like to be driven. I could have had a 5GT last time around but it lost out to the CLS on boot space and usability. The old GT had an enormously heavy dual-mode boot lid-cum-tailgate, which concealed a surprisingly small boot. The 6GT has a simple tailgate and a much better boot — and looks better for it too.

Skoda did the boot/tailgate thing much better on the MKII Superb. I still quite like those too.

...and then dropped it for a tailgate for the next model when they realised it answered a question nobody was asking.
Joking apart, it’s curious that Humph (along with a lot of the bottom half of the Internet) chooses to ridicule the GT on grounds of appearance or taste. If nothing else, I think we here share an appreciation of cars that are good at what they do — and while it’s nice if they look pretty doing it, that’s a secondary consideration. (I happen to find the GT rather handsome, but then I’ve always liked big hatchbacks.)
I agree that, for most people, a 5 saloon is a better driver’s car and a 5 estate a better wagon. But when you’re not most people, and you’ve spent much of your adult life making do with spaces, clothes, furniture that simply don’t fit, happening on something that might have been designed especially for me and my family feels a bit special. (See also Saab; I got a similar feeling from the first 900 I sat in.) Even if I can’t afford one — only now, it seems, I can.

I prefer saloon looks, and hatch/estate practicality. I think it's a brilliant solution on the MkII Superb. I'd have one like a shot if it wasn't for DSG.

What do you mean by "bottom half of the Internet" please?

It's just a well known term for the comments sections on websites, because those tend to be at the bottom. See Dave Gorman's TV shows (Found Poems) for further details.

Clearly not sufficiently well known ... Who is Dave Gorman?

Nor have I Espada. It must be because we live in the unreconstructed north I suppose.

Thanks Vić — exactly what I was referring to. (Some people can be so touchy!) Also known as BTL for ‘below the line’.

Oh, ok, I'll give it a go. Not much of a TV watcher in truth. Didn't even own a TV set until my mid 30s. Seen a lot more these past 12 months though I suppose.
In the past, before the world turned inside out, I was usually working, or on my bike, or tinkering with something in the shed or garage during the day, and as mentioned elsewhere, at the gym/pool in the evenings and or cooking something. More of a R4 regular mostly, or with my nose in a book. My wife insists on watching everything/anything that involves murders, dead bodies etc but I'm not a great fan of any of that, and do my best to avoid rooms where that sort of thing is on.
Don't mind HIGNFY, Last Leg and QI.
Talking of books, if you've not read it, try "The Hundred Year Old Man" by Jonas Jonasson. And its sequel. "Accidental Further Adventures"
Very funny and absurd reading.

Thanks, I'll add those to my list for my summer holiday poolside reading.
Oh, hang on...
