Well, not the big ones anyway. I missed the announcement but it seems the 6GT was quietly dropped from the UK lineup a year ago. Seems a pity — but then, I’m in the minority it might appeal to over a 5 Touring or a 7 saloon, and I haven’t bought one. Nor am I likely to, as the big fossil-powered family car I have will last until an electric replacement comes along.
I don’t see many on the roads either — not that I’ve been out there much lately. So it’s hard to fault the reasoning that sales haven’t justified keeping it in the catalogue. But I applaud BMW for making it (and the 3GT, which we might have bought had its rear headroom matched the legroom) and kind of wish I’d at least tried one. It’s the only I can think of that would beat the CLS for rear legroom while matching its sense of occasion.

Obviously did sell (m)any, and quietly dropped to avoid any embarrassment. Guess their R&D resources are being refocused on EV tech?

They still sell the 6GT in Germany and the USA for example. But the 6 series coupe and grande coupe are absent so a new one or facelift must be imminent.

I think the "dropped to avoid embarrassment" thing is about right Dixi. Not least for the drivers of them.

...says the man with the faux-Jeep. Why be embarrassed about having sired offspring that don’t fit in a matchbox?
The 6 Gran Coupé is now called the 8 Gran Coupé. Grans everywhere are celebrating.

I quite like the GTs, and that's coming from someone pretty BMW averse. A neighbour has a 3 GT (petrol I think), but that is a family of leprechauns so they didn't buy it for the headroom. It replaced a 2004 5-series petrol saloon a few years ago.

I'm not sure the 6GT is still available in Germany. I recall reading something about an 8 being launched recently and checking Autoscout24 there are only 3 available registered in 2020, nothing listed as new and nothing first registered in 2021.
They are surprisingly affordable the cars listed for sale. 2019 cars available for 10k€ less than a new Focus estate list price. You don't buy a car for its resale value but these things... Ouch!

I expect it's because there is a limited market for lounge lizard cars these days. Quite rare to see a medallion too now.

Oh bugger, you know what I’ve been doing since I wrote this, don’t you? Seems the amount I paid in 2017 for my now seven-year-old CLS now buys a nice 68-plate 630i GT. Only four cylinders but a comparable 254hp, which seems enough to be going on with even in a hefty car. No more dieselly grumbling and enough room in the back to silence the whining all the way to the Mediterranean, assuming we’re ever allowed that way again. (Little blighters should try two weeks in Snowdonia in a 1979 Renault 12 if they want something to whine about.)
It’s quite a lot of car to be trundling about in the rest of the time, but the i3 does most of that work anyway. And I’d have to buy yet another £500 towbar for the bikes, but...

Still got the grey slip ons? If they're in good nick, can't see what's stopping you...

Sounds like a reasonable plan. I'll see your Snowdonia, and raise you spending the night on the parcel shelf of a Ford Zodiac, in a car park in Saxmundham, in 1981.

300 mile range, 800v charging. Game over. Commonplace in the next 10 years, problem solved.
I'm already wondering if the motorhome I buy in 2030 will be a BEV.

I'm already wondering if the motorhome I buy in 2030 will be a BEV. Batteries are not the only sustainable alternative. One of these could cure even Norm’s range paranoia. (Although I think this may have slipped into the wrong thread.)
