Oh no that's quite different. That's just a demographic which can be described as the "uninterested in cars and their function, more interested in how they think the vehicle makes them look to others, and quite possibly insane".

Hmm, that sounds, just a bit, like a Nissan Leaf driver to me... 😉

The Seat has been purchased. The sale process was very easy; in and out in 15 minutes. Car serviced and valeted. No locking wheel nuts which I think is a good thing. Never bought a car using a debit card before - it was very strange to see £6,000 go 'whoooosh'. Son #1 is very happy.
They even offered me £7,100 for my car after a quick inspection. The best I was offered online was £7,350 and that was subject to inspection. Tempted to part with it and use the Punto until I order a new electric car.

7 grand doesn’t sound like a lot for a good Merc with loads of miles left in it? Perhaps the colour devalues it 😉

Diesel car prices are quite depressed, petrol cars are up in value. WBAC offered me £10,350 for my Civic when I ran it through out of curiosity the other day. I had put a £1k deposit on it when I bought it (that was the trade-in value of the old Merc), and I've £7.6k left to pay. Which means I've got quite a lot of equity in it, like I had in my first Leaf when I traded it in. So far using PCP seems to be paying off, more luck than judgement though.

I checked my Merc recently and the quote from WBAC was £9350. It's a 2016 and "only" a 220, but with 150,000 miles. But it is ULEZ compliant. I'm guessing it's that last bit that's holding the price down on yours Esp.
Pretty sure I'm just going to keep this one now for as long as it'll keep going. I stood behind a man in a petrol station recently who was using a fuel card to pay for diesel on his similarly engined Sprinter van. He had to quote the mileage, which was 343,000 apparently.
Quite encouraging in a way.

I was expecting a lot less and can only assume the colour increased the value Anyway, I have decided that it will be several months before any new car crosses my driveway so I'm sticking with the Merc until closer to the time.

Good decision in my opinion. I'd have thought it was still worth way more than seven grand to you?
When does the emissions charge thingy start in Manchester?

My CLS, a couple of years younger than Esp’s E but similarly light on miles, is worth £10,000 according to the BMW dealer whose 630i GT I tried. That’s a £12,000 drop in four years, or £250 a month, which is manageable, especially assuming it’s dropping more slowly now than in 2017. ULEZ will have some effect but I don’t suppose many people buy a car this big for regular use in a city — unless it’s a Range Rover, of course.
Quite glad now we’re in Wales that I didn’t swap it for the GT. That would have been great for the drive over (not that the CLS wasn’t) but it would have been even more bulk to be acutely conscious of in the steep, high-hedged lanes around here. And we probably wouldn’t have filled it again till next summer.

Here's a thing, the Jeep is apparently worth £320 more as a trade in than we paid for it retail in March ! Not that we're selling it.

I'd be tempted to make you an offer on that CLS if I didn't have to visit cities so much. ( and if it had a sunroof of course ) 😉

You’d need the shoes, of course. And the medallion. Although I suppose I could include one of mine in the deal. (Although what you’d do with one size 13 shoe…)

My Civic is out on loan at the moment to my sister, who is in the UK temporarily and needs to run about the gaff with 2 passengers and a fair bit of luggage, so the Mini (fixed now, she said it was "just a misfire" causing the problem, but gave no further detail on the actual cause of the misfire and subsequent cure) isn't up to the job and is back in my garage doing the sqaure root of nowt. We are contemplating a UK holiday in late August, so the Civic would be useful for that, hence I won't be doing anything in regards to selling it or getting a manual car until September at the earliest. When I do, however, today's plat du jour is one of these: www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202106093660255If I go for something like that, it's on the basis of it being a "stop gap" car for a year until laddie has his licence, and review the situation then. Not too big, not too powerful, not too heavy on insurance (must be the 1.5), but big and useful enough as a family car for longer trips or for haulage duties when required. Maybe it could become "his" car in the fullness of time, and then I'd get myself something else to go alongside the Leaf, or replace the Leaf with a larger, longer range EV. Final decisions can wait a bit still, just going through the mulling over process.

Good decision in my opinion. I'd have thought it was still worth way more than seven grand to you? When does the emissions charge thingy start in Manchester? Not sure we will have an emissions charge in the near future. I rarely drive into the heart of the city centre anyway and we have Espadrille's car for that if I needed to. Yes my Merc is worth more to me than £7k but like Dubya, I have lost about £2,500pa in depreciation which is a damn sight less that the leasing cost would have been for the same car, even if I leased a second hand car. The cheapest way to run a car is to buy it, unless there are tax rules that skew the discussion (EV company cars being one example).

There's something kind of cool about that Subaru Al. Long way from you mind.
