Almost a perfect learner practice car. Just needs — ah, yes, right-hand drive.

Nah, over rated, that. It'd put hairs on his chest, a LHD.

Why ? Is there a rule in the UK about provisional licence holders and LHD ? My daughter is well practised in reversing the LHD EV into the garage. Next step in her driver training is RHD, manual, diesel Volvo. Second thoughts I might leave that until last and let her have a go in the LHD, petrol, automatic Focus. The Volvo is going to be a challenge for me if I need to step in and control the car as Volvo, in their infinite wisdom, tucked the handbrake switch down under the dashboard between the steering column and the driver's door

Yes indeed. I once had to emergency pull the handbrake on and grab the wheel in the Aygo when H jnr was learning. Not his fault actually. A driver pulled out from a junction on our left without looking, right in front of us, and then, with the driver having realised his error, the vehicle just stopped in the path of the Aygo broadside on. H Jnr might well have stopped in time anyway, but my instinctive reaction was to intervene as it was only about the second time he'd driven that car.
Scared the bejesus out of all concerned. We stopped within inches of the driver's door of the offending car.
Anyway, I'm sure we're all waiting with ever so slightly baited breath to find out how the WDB school of motoring fared on its maiden outing.
Everyone still speaking? Car still car shaped?

It didn’t get off the drive this time. He had a sit in it, pronounced the car acceptable (he counted the airbags on the fingers of a small Kit Kat, reminded me that’s still two more than a 1993 900) but deemed the pedal layout ‘so much better than the Clio’ he’s being taught in.
And that’s pretty much where time ran out. He had student meetings on the Saturday morning, then I was off to play cricket. Dad fatigue and beer took care of any potential evening session, and then it was Birmingham first thing on Sunday.
But the car has its four new Continental all-seasons, and the tyre man’s blessing on my idea of retaining the old non-directional Conti spare as a get-you-home. They even did alignment and ‘safety’ checks (always a risk factor for teeth-sucking and brake pads) and pronounced everything ‘spot on’. So that’s all good. And I had a long chat in a café with a delightful 85-year-old, who was then off back to her spot in front of the telly to watch the queen’s arrival at Ascot.
Less good was the traffic home, which meant a lot of waiting in queues by temporary lights, wishing I was in the i3, but hey, it was an outing.

I wasn't allowed beer or any kind of alcohol, or indeed fatigue while my son was learning.
"Dad, can we just go...dad, can we we maybe...dad, could you drop me at...dad, could you perhaps pick me up and I'll drive back..."
Nigh on three months of that more or less.

Sensible head: this looks like a good allrounder if I go with the idea of replacing the Civic with a manual car for shared use between myself and a learner. Once his test is passed, then maybe it becomes his car and I'll look for an automatic estate car of my own again. I can't see us doing many continental odysseys in the next year/18 months anyway, so I really don't think I'll suffer from not having an estate car on the fleet during that time. And if I have a sudden weird requirement I'll rent temporarily. Also, by the time we're looking at a long driving holiday again, the lad will probably not be coming with us. So even then the argument for a large car is fading away. www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202106133797147

Bonny car... Makes sense. Two people could go away in that for two weeks as well.

Looks alright that Al.
What’s the sticker on the back all about?
Can’t quite see it properly on my phone.

You need an Android phone Humph, you'd then see a Cornwall flag. GL is Kent init. Probably spent week days up and down the M20 and weekends on the A303. The only problem I had with my MK3 was rear legroom and engines, mine had an appetite for engines. Edit: not sure about the advert, 10 year old car, 95,000 miles, 24,000 over average OK, it's done 10k more than my 2010 S60 but that's hardly a highly used example.

Oh I dunno, 9500 a year sounds ok. Probably done a bit more than short shopping trips anyway.
Oh, and no one needs an android phone, well, unless times wuz 'ard sort of thing. You'd make allowances for that I suppose.

It is. Garden of England, apparently. Our Aygo, which still has its Canterbury dealer sticker, has a GF.

No problem seeing the flag on my iPhone. I do sometimes wish Autotrader let me display pictures a bit bigger, though, but that’s an Autotrader thing.
