No, that’ll be Humph’s dwarf road crew in the back. "Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it's off to the bike we go....."

Is everyone on drugs this morning? What's different about this morning?

To be fair, it's a couple of minutes job to mount or remove. 4 clamps to tighten or loosen and that's it. It more about the CBA factor really ! ...well, you could always put the rack semi-permanently on her car and use that for your more regular forays (though I seem to remember you saying it was a bit high). So: ...buy her a new, more "practical" vehicle you could do that with, or ...treat yourself to the campervan, and hang the bikes on the back for your outings. (SWMBO used our first three campervans as her only vehicle, and managed OK. A late model Tn VW should be quite driveable for the current Mrs H - as long as it is fitted with power folding mirrors - and one can't deny it is "sitty-up". TBH, though, if you're really serious about boggering off to Europe for a while with bikes, a larger Ducato/Crafter/Sprinter conversion with a toilet/shower is just about a must, but isn't as handy as a daily driver).

Not quite at the camper van point yet, though it's not impossible to imagine, a few phases on. And you're right, putting the racks on top of an SUV just makes them a bit of a stretch, which seems a bit pointless when I have another car that is just better for the purpose. I shall almost certainly do what I normally do when faced with this dilemma, which is more or less nothing. The racks don't particularly enhance the look of the car, but I don't suppose I'm really too bothered about that. Maybe I should be, but I'm struggling to think why.

You could always get a towball and trailer instead?!
Wife’s got a very long kayak: was easier to strap it to the trailer than lift it up on to the roof of the 4wd back in the day. Now we live on the waterside so it doesn’t need to be transported by car anyway. Maybe a house move is the ultimate solution Humph?! 🤣
