I had a digital camera delivered once and by chance found it in the green garden recycling bin. Not even a card through the door to say what they had done.
I blame Amazon using cheap, self-employed delivery drivers who have too many parcels to deliver per day from their clapped out cars/vans. My example above was from around 2005 so these cheap 'couriers' did not exist.

Once had a new passport delivered. Despite allegedly coming to my office between 9am and 5pm they claimed no-one was in, so after much to-ing and fro-ing it was redelivered....by a rather large woman of uncertain age but certainly very very low social class, who got out of a 15 year old clapped out Vauxhall, driven by a rather scroat looking youth. I did query letting my passport loose with the type of people who would probably know what to do with a stolen passport (and that does not include taking it to the police).

A friend once had a note pushed through the door from the postman saying 'tried deliver your parcel but you weren't in'. He dashed out and caught the postman. Postman hadn't brought the parcel because he thought he would be out ;-)

They will not deliver here if you are out. They expect a tip, you see.
Also, there are no delivery routes, they just come down your road when they've got enough to make it worthwhile unless you alter the odds by being known to tip well.
