My son will be 21 in February. Normally, I guess we'd have been arranging some kind of party, but it may still be tricky to do that even then.
Anyway, he passed his driving test at 17, and has so far managed to not hit anything with his car, or cop any tickets. At the risk of apparent and probable parental bias, he is actually a good driver. Unusually enough for his generation, he's a bit of a car/driving fan and has mentioned that he'd love to try a track day type experience.
Got us to thinking that maybe we could stump for something like that for him and 2/3 others instead of a 21st do.
Anyone recommend anything of the sort? I did a few many years ago, ( Skidpan training at Snetterton, Formula Ford thing at Thruxton ) but I've no recent experience.

Maybe a bit predictable but given restrictions on movement Oulton Park is in your part of the world. Racemaster, BMW M4 Master, Mudmaster and Rallymaster courses are all available there.

Good shout BPG. I'll check that out. Mrs H saw a thing on the "Next" website of all places advertising gift vouchers for track days, shot of a Lamborghini and so on.
Given his love of mountain biking, I also thought of an off road buggy/4x4 type experience. Quite fancy that myself, come to think...
I seem to remember that you can take your own car to Oulton Park too, but I fear an Aygo might not be the best thing to throw round a race track !

How about drifting? There are courses for that as well.

The Mudmaster course at Oulton Park is in a LR Discovery. It looks like they offer more than just track based courses. www.msvdrivinggifts.com/No experience of any of their offerings.

Humph, as an aside, while a driving day is a great idea and lots of photos can be taken to keep something small specific to him that he can keep with him will probably mean a lot too. I've always had a thing for watches. My mum, who was a widower when my 21st came around, bought me a pocket watch. Not an expensive watch but what she could afford. I have that and will never give it up.

Can he have his own sporran, or does he have to wait to inherit yours?

I do actually quite like wearing a kilt. Which is not all that common a thing even in Scotland except on special occasions, but it is just a very comfortable garment if hillwalking or something. Midges can be an issue.
I've been skiing in a kilt before now ( for a laugh with mates when younger and dafter ) but you really don't want to fall... 😫
