Sounds like you spoke to Meghan. She’s refreshingly down to earth like that. ...it's the marriage that sorted that....

Henley Road, Caversham. That shows ambition. I get grub/groceries from the Co-op there through Deliveroo now, no need to visit in person. Is it safe to go to the bike shop?

I’ve been there once since The Event. I passed my troublesome wheel and tyre through the just-open door, waited in the rain for 15 minutes, then got it back by the same method.
Not much point in going if they have no bikes, though. ☹️

"Excuse me, but do you have any bicycles for sale?"
"No sir, we've run out, and it'll be weeks, maybe months before we have any in again"
"Are you absolutely certain, I'd really like to buy one."
"Sorry sir, we simply have none left"
"Not even one in my size?"
"No sir, afraid not, very sorry."
"Could you perhaps just double check? Maybe there's something you've overlooked at the back of the warehouse, surely you have something I could buy?"
"Let me put it to you this way sir, how many times does the letter 'F' appear in the word 'bicycles'?"
"There's no 'F' in bicycles is there?"
"Quite so sir"

“But there is an F in ‘pennyfarthing’. Would that do?”

Rigid forks at least.

Not too many gears either. Problem solved!
Vić’s feet won’t reach the ground — but he must be used to that.

There's a jump at Llandegla where I've ended up exactly like that on more than one occasion...😬

Yesterday saw my twelfth and final salary deduction towards the brown bike. I had been wondering what would happen next. The corporate intranet wasn’t much help, but now I know.
An email arrived this morning from Halfords Cycle2Work. It informed me that my employer had transferred title to the bike to them and offered me three options: 1. Return the bike to C2W. 2. Buy it for the fair market value. (It didn’t state was this was, but HMRC sets it at 25 percent after 12 months.) 3. Agree to an extended hire period with no further charges.
I accepted Option 3, so I still don’t own the bike, and won’t for another four years. But it remains mine to use at no cost, and I can order another one if I like (although the scheme window is now closed till November, and there might be consequences if I did so even then.)
Happy with the scheme? Yes, given that it’s got me something nice and useful for a lot less than full price.
Happy with the bike? Mostly, although after a year with it I can see and feel the difference between an £800 machine and my £1700 Friston, which has got a lot more use. But it has convinced me on the concept of 650b wheels on fat tyres. When they don’t have intractable punctures (this bike has been unlucky with those) they make it a brilliantly capable machine on rough farm tracks without slowing me down when I’m only popping to the shops.

I can see that if you were trying to shave a couple of seconds off a time trialled section, how tubeless tyres might make enough of a difference to make them attractive. But, for me anyway, if I'm a long way from the car, or indeed any recogniseable form of civilisation, I still prefer to carry a spare inner tube for ease of repair if required.
Which is odd I know, as you'll be aware that I'm among the first to embrace new technology in so many other ways...

It’s not about time for me. In almost all cases when I’ve noticed a puncture, it has self-sealed in a few seconds and not even lost enough pressure to need pumping up. Some I’ve not even noticed until I saw the tell-tale pink splodge on the tread later.
And I can still use a tube in an emergency with the tubeless tyres on either bike. There’s been one incident when I might have done so, but I wasn’t far from home and the punctured tyre was worn out and had a replacement waiting in the shed.

Bought a new tyre this week for the brown bike, as my latest try at repairing the old one seems to be holding but it’s failed so many times that I don’t really trust it any more. That can happen. Anyway, it’s now getting one of these on the back advntr.cc/teravail-rutland-650bx47/which ought to answer some of the questions posed by muddy tracks until the sun comes out. If it works well, I’ll probably get one for the front too — and then I’ll be even closer to reconstructing my old M300 by stealth.

Or, you could just buy a proper bike... 😎
