I was thinking more along the lines of a red Caterham actually... 😎

It's only for a few years. You're going to retire soon. Aren't you?
Then it's time for the beige Jazz. ...on which subject, does anyone else find the idea of 'Jazz Apples' faintly upsetting? jazzapple.com/eu/en/

I was thinking more along the lines of a red Caterham actually... 😎 Saw a red Catherham in the Reading traffic the other day, the driver had his baseball cap tied to the frame of the car with a bit of string. Whilst he was wearing it.
Rakish.

I saw one in Waitrose car park the other week. Its driver had crawled right up behind a mummywagon, to the point where he was too close and too low to be visible in her mirrors. She then decided to reverse out of the path of a car emerging from a space she wanted; cue frantic bellowing and leaning on horn from matey in the Caterham, as if it was her fault that he'd put himself where he couldn't be seen. Stylish.

Catherham? Now they are rare...😉 A version popular with today's typical gentleman customer, who finds roadside facilities more sparse than they used to be. They don't usually put a badge on it, for obvious reasons.

Never actually tried it because I'm too honest, or perhaps feeble, but my Westfield would have fitted under French motorway toll barriers. It was tempting.

Talking of old people, I wonder where T&E has got to? Not been here since Star Wars day apparently. ( May the 4th )

Going back to the original question....dare I say this, from a half-Scot to a full Scot? Finance, although a vital consideration in choosing a car, isn't the only one. Peace of mind, and the ability to turn up to business meetings on time with a car full of frilly slippers (nearer to it than WDB?), must be just as vital.
You look after your cars despite their high mileage, and (given that you don't get stuck in snow even with RWD) it's reasonable to assume that you're a good driver. Can you say that about all the reps who have driven the 2012 Mondeo, even if you recruited them? I think this is just the time that the Mondeo may start to feel its age.
If the BIK on the Mercedes is crippling, is it less by enough of a margin on a new company Mondeo estate to make it worthwhile to replace the Merc?
(Edit - great minds..... I was typing this at the same time as yours!)

Talking of old people, I wonder where T&E has got to? Not been here since Star Wars day apparently. ( May the 4th ) TnE, formerly of this parish, has been indisposed whilst the medical profession practices antibiotic roulette with him. Once they decided on a course that didn't exhibit resistance, I am on the mend and currently in Northern Deutschland with my chemical WC. Not a good 4.5 weeks though. 🙄

Keep well T&E, and thanks Avant, as always, you see and point the right way. No, the difference between a new Mondeo and my current car is measureable, but not so great as to cause me to want to change for that reason.
I was just musing really because £2000 for a car that is still pretty good, seems, well, pretty good I suppose. Might be more tempted if I was about to go it alone again or something. Start up car sort of thing.
